AFAIAC, any WW2 combat vet can do just about anything he effin’ well pleases. They’ve earned that right!

While camping and cooking bacon in a cast iron pan…I figured you can drain and toss the bacon fat, or griddle some bread (sliced sourdough). Easier to griddle some bread. Goes well with an egg and tomato.

This was at Chopstick Express in State College, PA — but there must be versions of this in Philly or NYC.
A little beyond the scope of this topic, but highly relevant (and enjoyable): sandwiches that you will like, a PBS documentary from 2002 about classic local sandwiches around the US.

FIL suffered serious privation fighting on far-flung islands. My dad had it a little better, maybe, fighting with Patton’s Third Army in France and Germany. Both survived, otherwise neither Wahine or I would be here!
