I got an email from Made-In this morning pitching the collegiate collection, cookware with full color college logos! Anyone here so loyal to their alma mater they will get one? Any of us from small liberal arts schools feel, as usual, feel left out?
No Bard or Reed cookware?
I guess Juniata is out too…/
But this isn’t new, right? Star War theme or Snow White theme cookware…
seems there are some colleges/universities that inspire life long RAH-RAH-RAH reactions in their students…
I have a set of wine glasses from a last century graduation . . . and in 50+ years, can not ever recall using them . . . .
I’ll have to keep an eye out for logo’d el super cheap! casserole dishes . . . than didn’t sell . . .
Penn State puts their ish on everything you could possibly imagine. Most loyal alumni in the country AFAIK. One could also call it a cult.
I cannot imagine it being any more fanatic than the University of Texas. Others that seem especially rah rah would include LSU.
Those ten schools have professional teams worth billions each in football and basketball, and a HUGE fan base bigger than many or most non-academic professional sports team. My guest is Made In hired a sorority member (from one of those schools) who came up with the idea and was probably initially poo-poo’ed andmocked…until someone ran the numbers.
As to who will buy a $100 branded burger press? Fanatics and people buying gifts for those fanatics. I’d call it low hanging fruit.
Spot on. I can foresee the family Longhorn dropping hints this fall.
My college/university isn’t there. Which is unsurprising because the 2 unofficial student mottos were: “Where Fun Goes to Die” and “Hell Does Freeze Over.”
I don’t think the students ever bought branded merch, except the spiral notebooks sold in the bookstore had the school seal on the cover. I know, what’s a spiral notebook? What’s taking notes? What’s handwriting?
I do have an emblemed shot class
I have no merch from any of my almae matres.
Nor do I, except things that were handed to me as branded swag. I did purchase the shot glass before I graduated, because it seemed so incongruous. Nobody drank. It was un-hippie.
I recall the boozeless hippy years, sort of.
Heh. What’s your name, Bob?
Hippies still around…just have to look in the right place, like Santa Cruz and the surrounding mountains.
To stay on topic…Go Banana Slugs!
University of Alabama, anyone??
I graduated from a State University and never understood the whole “brand loyalty” thing. To me, the goal was to learn stuff. But, people like to belong to groups. I guess that’s motivation enough, right?
A popular sportsing team makes all the diff.
Ahh… the “student athletes.”
The stories I (and a lot of others) could tell…
Oh, plenty of stories abound about the PSU football program
