Good ol’ loperamide (marketed as Imodium in the US) also works and that’s definitely OTC without the dread of using an antibiotic without a diagnosis.
Always carry Imodium, and I think it helped me get through the worst of it
Ok, hear me out, and no judging plz. My G. I seems to be settling down nicely, so I figured I’d settle in down even more with a big fat juicy burger, crispy fries with a splash of CATSUP salsa and an ice cold Coke(not sure if it’s OG Mexican Coke, but whatevs).
This was at The Butcher’s Son, a a chain restaurant I’m guessing. The burger was very good, fries crispy and it was close by and had a nice shaded patio. I can’t do any more tacos this trip as I literally had them flying out my arse the past couple of days and I think I might have taco PTSD:sob:
This was a spur of the moment, late lunch so I’m either having pizza or the cream puff I have stashed away in my room fridge.
The stomach wants what it wants.
Exactly, and I almost wrote that
Ciproflaxin is over the counter in Mexico, prescription in the US.
you are doing so well! even with the dreaded Moctezuma bug. It literally gets me just about every time i’m in Mexico (last time was a doozy). But you soldier on and take it meal by meal.
I love that you loved El Tigre - one of my favorite places, and La Esquina - THE favorite place last time we were there. And Trespatio! That little spot is so calming and sweet. I’m so bummed for you that you missed Frida’s house… next time!
and can’t wait to hear how you fare tomorrow, especially because it’s CONTRAMAR DAY!
BUEN PROVECHO, PEDRO!
Gracias , I’m trying my best
. Onwards and upwards!!
Hope you are feeling better, and nothing wrong with wanting a burger - as I understand it, las hamburguesas son muy populares en la CDMX.
I probably missed out on a more local burger experience, in a cooler, old school environment but this was very close and did the job. Normally I wouldn’t crave stuff that I can get back home after such a short time, but circumstances were a bit different
Ciprofloxacin is prescription in the U.S. and Canada, but non-prescription in Mexico as far as I know. It isn’t recommended for milder traveler’s diarrhea - loperamide and hydration is fine for that. Ciprofloxacin and azithromycin are useful for many common bacterial causes of moderate to severe traveler’s diarrhea. The downside of using antibiotics is that there are side effects, they can increase antibiotic resistance, and they can negative impact your gut microbiome, which includes lots of helpful bacteria. The above antibiotics also don’t help with other causes of traveler’s diarrhea such as viruses and protozoa.
We are all @PedroPero. Who among us hasn’t experienced tummy trouble during travel?
Hope that you’re able to fully savor the rest of your trip!
Thanks so much . Feeling much much better today.
Another great breakfast at the hotel.
Early morning(6:30am) churro and fruit with yogurt and a brief visit from my doggo friend.
Then a proper dish of Huevos divorciados as the main course. So good . Another chill day ahead, some more wandering, lunch at Contramar and who knows what I’ll do for dinner.
I did skip dinner last night and just had the cream puff I had stashed in the fridge.
Thanks . I did take some Imodium, which I always bring when I’m traveling and grabbed a small bottle of Pepto Bismol yesterday. Stomach is much better today.
Beautiful pics! Are the dogs feral? I remember hearing a few years ago that Istanbul has a sizeable feral cat population and I am imagining the dog version of Istanbul’s cats…
I hope your tummy is feeling better. A wonky tummy is no fun especially when travelling.
My favorite - huevos divorciados!
Love the doggos too!
the dogs are SO well-trained there, there are tons of dog walkers that take them to parks and have them trained to sit, lay down, etc. and they take many at one time, it’s really impressive!
beautiful Mexico City… i’m glad you’re having such lovely weather.
omg now i’m nervous about Contramar. What if you don’t like it?? My reputation is at stake here!
I’m sure you’ll love it.
