I haven’t seen any feral dogs or cats, or many squirrels tbh, but I’m sure if you go outside of the city centre you’ll find them. Stomach is !! I even had a big lunch, details to follow.
The dogs, the weather, the people, everything has been spectacular.
Guess who’s back bitches?!?!
Had a 2pm reso for Contramar so I walked over and got there 30 minutes early. The place was rammed when I got there, but I told the guy at the front door that I was there but no problem waiting. Within two minutes they had a nice window table ready for me.
I probably could have done a no reso walk in as soon as they opened, like @mariacarmen suggested I do, and probably would have gotten a seat at the bar. I did appreciate the table tho. I had not one, but two glasses of excellent white wine.
A full order of Tostadas de Atun, you’re only seeing two pieces, could have easily had a dozen
1/2 order of a refreshing Ensalada de pepino y jitomate, for health
The best pulpo of the entire trip- Pulos a la Galega , so so tender and such a simple presentation.
Agua carbonatada
And their famous Tarta de Higos. Super tasty
Not a spec of food was left on the plates, service was so friendly and efficient, and the buzz was buzzing.
I’m so glad I listened to Maria and the thousands of others who had fantastic meals there. This could be my last meal here, we’ll see how I feel in a few hours.
So glad I made it
Oh, my… that fig cake!
Dood
YAY!!! so glad you liked it!! i dream about those tostadas… never had any better. And yeah, that pulpo is fab too. Fig torta looks awesome, never had dessert there.
Glad you’re back in shape, too. And I hope you get one more good meal while you’re there!
I knew you wouldn’t steer me wrong . The fig tart was outstanding, there’s no way I could pass it up.
Right now I’m stuffed to the gills, but who knows in a few hours, the BbB manager suggested a cool looking pizza place only a 10 minute walk from here, “Dr Pizza” , as you know, Mondays can be tough to find restaurants that are open, pretty much anywhere in the world.
He also told me The Red Treehouse group is opening a new hotel in Oaxaca in about a year, so that’s pretty exciting.
omg SO exciting! i’ve been dying to go to Oaxaca!!
Me too!!
I loved all of the dogs in CDMX and they seemed much better behaved/trained than the ones in Toronto!!
The best!
Last dinner in CDMX might be disappointing for some, but it was close, no reso needed and pretty tasty to boot.
Pepperoni pie from Dr Pizza, which was a short walk away and they had a nice patio.
Back to YYZ tomorrow afternoon, but at least there’s some excellent news to come home to
🫶🏼
Well done
Good stuff. When I got the email of this post I thought I was looking at my own pics for a sec. The only thing missing was the fish. Its one of those touristy but who cares.
That’s a wrap folks!
What an amazing city, filled with beautiful architecture, the friendliest people, great restaurants and food scene that rivals any other city in the world.
Mexico is a place I see myself coming back to again and again for more exploring, it’s so easy to get here from YYZ. I’ve been to Europe many times over the years and I still love it, but this was my first time here and there’s much more for me to see.
I’d do a few things differently next time, even though I’m a pretty seasoned traveler.
My unfortunate meeting with Senior Moctezuma could happen anywhere at any time, but you just have to roll with the punches.
If any of y’all are concentrating a stay in CDMX, I highly recommend the Red Tree House for a chill and relaxing retreat in a fantastic neighborhood(not a paid endorsement )
Again, thanks to everyone for the recommendations and tips.
Apologies for the whinging during my darkest hours, but sometimes humour is the best medicine
.
Hasta la próxima, hermoso México!!!
Loved hearing about your trip and glad you had such a (mostly) great time!
