Oh, that’s great to know - thanks! I booked the one bedroom apartment.
Sweet! They look really nice
Great report so far, +1 buen provecho! I think I went on the same Club Tengo Hambre tour of Condesa as you, though unlike yours it wasn’t a private tour It definitely was a lot of food with a lot of great tacos and street food.
I liked Brujas too. If you’re into cocktails I also had some good ones at Licoreria Limantour in Roma Norte and sister bar Baltra in Condesa.
I was lucky to get the “private tour “
Gonna lay off the booze for a day or two, I got pretty lit and my tummy is all over the place
So as noted above, I was hit by something nasty right after breakfast that forced me to cancel plans for pretty much the whole day, including my afternoon visit to the Frida Kahlo museum . There’s no way I could be any sort of distance from a decent bathroom, I gave my ticket to the hotel manager in the hopes that he would find someone else that could go. I had an 8pm reservation at El Tigre Silencioso and was thinking of canceling that as well, but I started to feel better by 7 and figured I’d take a chance.
The restaurant is in a cool, trendy neighborhood, surrounded by other hip clubs and eateries.
I was sat on the upper terrace, which was much better than the bar seat I had originally booked.
No booze for me tonight, just a couple of Topo Chico agua mineral, which were perfect for my churning stomach.
I started with ensalada tomates, much needed after all the tacos consumed. Nice, tasty tomatoes and greens in a delicious vinaigrette.
Next was the ceviche kampachi , served with crispy fried tortilla like chips. This was excellent, with a nice citrus sauce poured at the table.
Last up was pulpo y pipian (big surprise right ),
This was really good, nicely charred and tender, with fried potatoes, chickpeas and I think tahini.
I did a pretty good job of devouring everything, but the portion size was enough for two.
No room for dessert so I booted it back to the hotel and was out by 9:30
It was one of the more expensive meals so far ($100 CAD) but well worth it. Great service and the music was excellent. Highly recommend.
This is my only issue with CDMX. You just dont know when/if you’ll get hit with a tummy issue. I was fine until the last day where I lost my appetite. One of my daughters got hit with a bad one on another visit. Hope you ok.
Known as “Montezuma’s revenge” in the olden days. Glad you’re feeling better, and that is TPSTOO on that plate! Wow
I’m feeling much better today, who knows what it was(food, water, something else )but I carry all the right stomach remedies with me when I travel, regardless of where I’m going.
Fill this geezer in with the hip lingo plz
Aw, c’mon. As a WFD veteran you should at least know TPSTO
The last O stands for octopus.
Good you are feeling better. These are the risks with the street food particularly. We did our food tour knowing there could be consequences. Even though I had the oral Dukoral vaccine before our trip last fall, we still got hit the next day. Which is why we always travel with a few doses of ciprofloxacin also. It was still worth it for the street food and market food we tried.
Breakfast in the courtyard.
Fruits, OJ, bread, pastry and delicious Chilaquiles.
Also, dingus dog totally ignoring me UNTIL, I grabbed a churro and all of a sudden, we were besties once again

This hotel makes a great breakfast

I see you’re back to 100%
Happy eatings today!
Is this over the counter or prescription?
But you’re right, it’s absolutely worth the risk, I mean, how can you not partake in the amazing street food scene.
More like 95%, but I’ll take it
After breakfast yesterday, I thought I was well enough to take a wander over to the Roma Norte neighborhood and have a little looky loo. The weather was perfect and the streets were bustling.
Great shops and restaurants, even a cool outdoor flea market. I also figured I was good enough to partake in an ice cold Cerveza at Traspatio, which was recommended by the lovely and talented @mariacarmen. Cool spot for a drink and a bite, but I didn’t eat. Welp, not sure if it was the beer or the heat, but that freakin arsehole Montazuma and his frekkin revenge wouldn’t let me be.
Any who, I made it back to the hotel to “rest” and get ready for my 7pm reservation at Esquina Común , which was my most anticipated restaurant of the trip.
I contemplated cancelling the reservation, but I put on my big boy pants and gave it my best.
I’m posting the menu because I’m too lazy to go into detail about all the ingredients
Esquina has only 6 items on the menu, and it’s kinda like a tasting menu, which they recommend having all 6 to get the full experience. Normally I would take it on with gusto, and ordered the full menu.
After the first two dishes, I cancelled two of the items as I knew I’d never get though them.
I had Tostada de Pescado
Calabacitas de mamá
Plátano ahuando
Wagu flank steak and finished off with postre cura depresion The dishes and visually stunning, and the technique is spot on. So many layers of texture and flavours going on that just fit perfectly.
Everything was so good, I just wish I was running at 100% to truly appreciate everything.
No booze, just sparkling water.
It’s a beautiful spot, on the top floor of a building. Only 7 tables, and I think they only do one seating (?)
Highly recommend, and make sure you have a reservation.
Dang, dude. Hope you’re back at 100% soon so you can enjoy your time to the fullest!
Brooooo . I hope I’m back to “normal “ before I get on the plane back home
You can usually get these OTC ex-US but my husband is not sure about Mexico. He also recommends Zithromax due to resistance to cipro in certain parts of the world.
Ironically, we’re meeting up with friends for dinner, one of whom is an infectious disease doc in Boston. We can ask him at dinner if you @PedroPero still need advice.
Thanks so much! I’m feeling way better(so far) today and bought some Pepto Bismol. But it’d be great if you could ask your friend, for future reference
