6 days in CDMX April 2025

First of all, I’d like to thank @mariacarmen @Mr_Happy @DrJohn and any others that I might have missed for their excellent trip reporting on CDMX !
Got in yesterday afternoon after a great flight from YYZ, room wasn’t ready yet so I decided to do some exploring.
First bites in CDMX.
Tacos naturally. One chorizo con papas(, delish, one chicaron con salsa, didn’t do it for me, left about half of it :grimacing:, and one higado (liver) which was the best of the bunch. All from Hola Taco, which is only a few minutes from my hotel.
For dessert I hoofed it over to Panaderia Rossetta for their famous Guava bun. Super delicious and worth the schlep in the heat.

Day one dinner was at Hugo, at bustling wine bar about a twenty minute walk from the hotel(probably should have taken an Uber, but trying to get those all important steps in)
Started with some excellent Ochchipinito olive oil and sourdough bread. Not sure if the bread was made in house or from one of the many excellent bakeries in the city, but it was outstanding.
Next up was super crispy calamari frito with super duper hot fermented chile aioli. Delicious.
And if I see pulpo on the menu, you know I’m gonna order it. Pulpo/papa/ajilio. Smoky nicely charred and tender. This was a cephalopod double header win.
Washed everything down with a glass of Lo Grand Fresimente. Sav/Blanc. Perfecto.
Glad my niece recommended this place and I highly recommend it also. Gratuitous photo of the hotel courtyard at night, lovely

I hope you can make it to St Angel Inn in St Angel. It is an experience not to be missed! Saturday would be the best day to do it. The traffic is much easier and Uber will get you there swiftly. As well you can see the extensive art street fair, which I believe is every Saturday these days…
If you planning to eat in Contramar (and you definitely should), consider to change it to Entremar. The menu is identical, but much less touristy feel.
The two new places which impressed me on my last trip about a year ago:

  1. Siembra Comedor (the restaurant and the taco stand nearby). The place was recommended to me by the multiple chilangos. It was indeed very good.
  2. El Tigre Silencioso. Very interesting menu of mostly small plates, so you can try a lot of staff. I was impressed with their fideos con camarones.
    Good luck.

Thanks! I forgot to mention you and your great trip report. I have a reservation for El Tigre tomorrow and Contramar on Monday, but will look into Entramar for sure :+1:t2:

Breakfast in the lovely hotel courtyard, which is included in the room rate.
There was various pastries, fruits, cereals and the all important good strong coffee!
The main breakfast dish of the day was a delicious Sope with ground beef, black beans, shredded lettuce and cheese, with excellent salsa on the side.
Only had one sope because I have a taco food tour today, so I needed to leave some room .
Also I had an early morning, pre breakfast coffee and churro dining companion, one of the two house doggos :blush:

The guava bun was on our list, but we never made it to Panaderia Rosetta. Rosetta itself was great.

It was spur of the moment as I was try to walk off the tacos I’d just consumed . There’s actually two locations of Panaderia Rosetta. The guava bun was top notch :yum:

Having a guava bun somewhat defeats the purpose of walking off the tacos :grinning:.

Day two lunch/taco tour.
I chose Club Tengo Hambre Condesa Taco tour because of my nieces recommendation, but I’m sure you can’t go wrong with any of the other options.
There was supposed to be another couple joining the tour, but they had to cancel so it was just me and the super hot and knowledgeable guide, whose name escapes me at the moment
Any who, on to the feast!!
Stop #1 was La Hortaliza on a bust street not far from the subway. I picked the Chile Relleno stuffed with cheese. Super tasty :yum:.
#2 -street vendor for 1/2 squash blossom and half mushroom and special corn (?) excellent.
#3- Tacos Don Juan for a busted+longoniza+ queso taco. This was probably my favourite of the bunch.
#4- back of a truck taco with brisket and pork belly. Very good, but by this point I was pretty stuffed.
#5- was a pastry from a shop I forgot to photograph. I took it to go because we still had two more stops.
#6- last street taco for blue corn tortillas stuffed with cactus, onion and queso. Twas good, but at this point in the game I could barely finish the half that we split.
Last stop was the Mercado Medellin for a walk around and then stopped for a much needed, refreshing popsicle from a stand just outside. Very tasty but I wish it was more on the sour side as that’s my preference for popsicles.
It was a fantastic day of walking, talking about the history of the food and neighbourhoods we visited and all the delicious tacos of course.
I love food tours and will continue to book them whenever I visit a new city.
