2026 Trader Joe’s Product Reviews – YEA/NAY/MEH

i was wondering if dehydrating deseeded Jalapeño peppers & then crushing them into bits could be a homemade version of that?

Could be very good indeed, but it wouldn’t come close to the deliciousness of salty deep-fried ones

Why would you crush them? That’s sort of defeating the purpose of eating crunchy slices.

These are coated with something and fried.

I make microwave “fried” okra that, but in this case, given the self-deterrent built into the item, I haven’t felt the need to reinvent what is an occasional indulgence.

Could you explain microwave “fried okra”? Sounds very intriguing.

Sure! See below.
Works on other vegetables too.

Thank you, what great advice and photos, I am ready to eat microwaved “fried” okra! I only wish more of our Boston area farms grew local okra so I can purchase it small and in season!

I do this stove top and also high temp oven when I can in the summer. The microwave doesn’t heat up the house and from your photos, gets a wonderful result. Blackened and almost dry roast.

given only “Crispy Jalapeño Pieces” as a description you have to use your imagination as to how big the pieces are. i went with small pieces as opposed to jalapeño slices.

to each their own. speaking just for myself, salty deep-fried <-fill in the blank-> doesn’t rank that high on the deliciousness scale.

That description usually doesn’t appeal to me either. Then I actually tasted these from TJs and changed my mind. And use self-control to not buy them very often.

This works with frozen okra too — you just get crunchy rings instead of strips (remove the tops & tails though, as they tend to make it into those bags).

(It’s also a low-effort and inexpensive experiment with frozen.)

Or a quick internet search for the image :joy:

Yes, but when people are reviewing potato chips, comparing them to dehydrated potatoes is not quite an equivalence.

thanks to the functionality built into the forum software, you will not be bothered by any more responses to your post from me. bye bye.

I would need to employ that functionality for me not to be bothered anymore.

In any case, back to the topic of the thread, which is reviewing TJs products.

On a related note, NAY for the crispy okra in a bag. There’s something weird about it that I can’t put my finger on. The crispy broccoli also wasn’t good.

I love TJ fresh ravioli, especially the lemon one that I haven’t seen lately. Last time I bought the Porcini/Truffle one YAY

So quick and easy, easy clean up. I just add butter, freshly grated Parmesan, fresh black pepper.

Yes, their fresh stuffed pasta makes for a nice quick dinner.

For me, it’s okay in a pinch, but it’s not as good as what I can get from a local specialty place that makes its own (and happens to be a couple of blocks from TJ’s).

Several years ago they had, all too briefly, Honey Butter Potato Chips. The slices were large but not thick, and it was a “dangerously” big bag. Healthwise it was a good thing they were discontinued, but they sure were a treat!

MEH I bought a bag of the Thai Yellow Curry Potato Chips, for me, they’re too strong tasting. I do like the large size of the chip. My favorite is still the one in the aqua/yellow package that used to be called Reduced Guilt. Hella crunchy but why are they so small?

MEH the Inca Corn Nuts … I thought surely I’d like but, no.
