I just went with what was on their website. Didn’t see Goya there. Maybe they have internationsl rights to Sazon and Goya has U.S. rights? Ok, I went back there. They have Brazilian rights. So a huge conglomerate with brands in multiple countries.
picked up a few new items — at least new to me.
rice pudding: 4 individual 3.5 ounce containers for $2.99. not a bad price, but a sorry substitute for the mush-missed 16-ounce container that was discontinued. a bit too sweet for my taste — not nearly enough rice — and what little there was of it was either too chewy or too mushy. big NAY!
hazelnut & cocoa crepes: not awful, but not worth $3.99. again, a little too sweet for me. MEH.
thai coconut pancakes: looked for these last year, but they’re a seasonal item — what season is not clear. they’re called pancakes, but they’re more like dough filled with a very smooth coconut pudding. again, a bit sweet. but, my biggest issue is while they’re small, all 9 have to be heated together, then separated. MEH at $3.79.
a big YAY! for parmesan, garlic & herb butter: $2.99 for 4 ounces. great mixed into capellini with wilted spinach. would be nice on a baked potato or toasted ciabatta.
“Sazon” just means “seasoning”.
Goya has a line of them, as do other companies.
Not that different from “Ajinomoto” – which was the invented term for MSG when it was isolated as a compound from seaweed, and later became the first commercial brand of MSG.
However Sazon in this case is a Brazilian brand that was bought by Ajinomoto.
My favorite Unexpected Cheddar comes in 4 forms now – the brick, grated (godsend), snack rounds, and a cheese spread. I haven’t tried the cheese spread yet, but everything else is an unsurprising YEA.
YEA for the Inca corn nuts. So good, must forget they exist again.
YEA for the several types of ciabatta (baguette, demi bag, rolls) – baguette form is my favorite, because it’s most versatile: cut a chunk for a sandwich, or a few thin slices, or both.
I love the corn nuts.
I got a bag of the Thai style yellow curry potato chips last week, and whoa Nelly are they good.
Thx for the endorsement. We might get a bag to bring to the next poker game ![]()
I put them back yesterday (restricted myself to 1 junk item and corn nuts won). Will have to pick up next visit.
My local indie supermarket has tubs of the jumbo corn nuts, including a chile lime version. I have to pass them by, because they are delicious.
yAY for the cool ranch rolled tortilla things. I found the flavor good but a little too crunchy for me. Little one and Mr Autumm are big fans
rolled tortilla things
Fake Takis ![]()
Are they as ridic salty as Takis?
They’re certainly comparably salty. (I don’t find either to be “ridic” salty, but I like salt.) The TJ’s ones are significantly more sour, have a bit less heat, but have a bit more spice depth and are way more “natural” tasting - both spice and deeper corn flavors. I don’t personally love either product, but my kids do, so we generally have a bag of one or the other in the cabinet. I won’t reach for the original ones (especially the very artificially colored blue variety that my son likes for some inexplicable reason) but I’ll grab a few of the TJ’s when they’re around.
I’ve only recently bought Takis for the first time, having heard about them & being curious, but I’ve not tried the TJ’s version and am unlikely to.
The Takis were damn near inedible.

A Salt Fiend
Recurring YEA for the Crispy Jalapeño Pieces. Perfectly fits the description of addictive, as I cannot stop eating them even when my mouth is ablaze.
They’re too good. I have to stop myself from putting them on everything for some additional crunch/spice. Especially just about any legume dish, of which we’ve been eating a lot of late.
how are the pieces made crispy?
I love them. I preferred when they came in the round tub with a lid over the bag, but I’m just glad they did not discontinue them lol.
I preferred when they came in the round tub
Me too. I remember thinking that the bagged ones weren’t as good as the tub ones used to be…and now I can’t really remember why. Maybe the tub ones were a bit crispier? I’m now a total fan of the bag ones so I guess they weren’t that much worse.
Deep frying, presumably. Which is why I need to hold myself back from using them at every opportunity.
