I think with them starting to sell their own brands, they probably want to move gradually in the direction of Trader Joe’s over time.
That makes sense. I remember in 2014-ish (?). I was at the Oakland GO and there was an executive transport van outside. Then I saw about 10 guys in business casual walking around and the first thing I thought was those guys are VC. Sure enough a VC bought it. Since then the weird stuff slowly declined. I remember once in a while you’d see liquidated goods and all kinds of odd stuff but no longer.

$4.99/12 oz (double 6-oz pack) - Beretta Parma Prosciutto di Parma Aged 18 months, product of Italy, POD designation certifying it’s from an authentic origin region, ingredients are only pork meat and sea salt. Low price may be due to the Best Use by By Nov 23, 2024, so there’s a chance they will pull it from the shelves after that date. I bought 3 packages.
$2.99/6 oz chunk - Mevgal Authentic Greek Cheese Greek & Grill, made from pasteurized cow milk, from Thessaloniki, Greece. The taste is slightly salty and chewy, not rubbery. This is similar to haloumi cheese but it can’t use that name on the label because it doesn’t meet the POD origin requirements. Haloumi is a grilling cheese from Cypress, usually made with sheep and goat milk and it does not melt or soften when grilled.
$6.99/750 ml - Sarah’s Vineyard Dwarf Oak 2020 Pinot Noir from the Santa Clara Valley. Not a fruit bomb, more like an earthy herbal tea with dry berry flavors. Several posters at GrossOutWine liked it.
from Wine Enthusiast -
Jammy aromas of stewed berry, roasted fennel and myrtle show on the ripe nose of this bottling. The tense palate picks up a more mineral-forward angle, with crushed rock and turned soil playing alongside concentrated cherry, woodspice and sagebrush flavors. — Matt Kettmann

Sarah’s Vineyard 2020 Santa Clara Valley Dwarf Oak Pinot Noir ($7)
I liked the Sequana PN just fine, and better on days 2 & 3, but I gotta say, this one is my pick; wowed me on pop & pour, one of the better and more distinctive PN’s at GO recently, and a great deal. I’ll taste it again after work today; thinking I may go back for a case, ill-advised as that is given my storage sitch. It comes on big both aromatically and flavor wise, pomegranate, pie cherry, dried strawberries and touches of darker-fruits, maybe black raspberry; some mushroomy/forest floor, touch of umami, hints of spices and herbs. Big but not hot nor too sweet, with a zingy acidity that hits the back sides of your tongue on the finish, silky tannins. Again, distinctive, although some of the character may come across as flaws to some, bit unbalanced, inelegant, or non-ideal Pinot. A tinge of unfamiliar but not unpleasant funk, composty? maybe Brett or another wild yeast. The tech sheet for the 2019 says they inoculated with RC212 after a cold soak, which could have allowed some native yeast to get started depending on how long they left it. TBD how it ages, but for $5.60 on sale, I’ll gamble.

DL, we are simpatico on the Sarah’s Vineyard Dwarf Oak PN 2020. I think it’s the best PN since the Monksgate last spring. Even better on Day 2. I posted a review in October. Maybe the slt funky note you’re describing is potting soil? Thanks to Michael for first alerting us! I bought 3 in Lewiston early October, really wished I’d gotten more (bought 3 Waypoint Dry Muscat on the same 45 min road trip, limited myself to 6 bottles total and hoped the Dwarf Oak would eventually land in Pullman, no such luck.) None of the other bottles you listed above are here. I’m envious you have so many choices!
Grocery Outlet is opening 66 stores in the south, had problems with system upgrades, and is facing competition that is lowering prices. Their presidentceo recently resigned.
great picks. I third the Sarah’s PN. A lovely winery that I’ve been fortunate to visit over the years. not every wine reaches a high level, but they never phone it in. a reliable boutique producer .

The East Hayward GO is back to selling single avocados–no more needing to commit to a large bag.

Soursop ice cream. $3. Santa Cruz
GO picked up a large quantity of this brand. I’m not familiar with this fruit. taste is similar to papaya. not too sweet, texture ok, a bit gummy. glad I could try this.
Geary Blvd (San Francisco) location:
Eggs–$6.99 a dozen / $9.99 (18-count)-
GO is the one place you can still get eggs. TJs hasn’t carried eggs for a couple of weeks.
Go early during the day. They have some.
My TJ was empty during the day, Masonic in SF.
Just FYI:
If you need to buy eggs and can’t find them anywhere else, Safeway is fully stocked - at least on-line, anyway. Maximum order seems to be two cartons, whether 12-egg or 18-egg cartons. I’ve had no trouble ordering them for delivery and in fact am on schedule for tomorrow (Tuesday 12/31).
Price is higher than GO, of course - 18-egg carton is $12.99.

Some cheeses, in the deli and the cheese island, are 40-60% off, probably because they are near the Best By date of Jan 11 or 12.
$1.49/5.3 oz. wedge (2 for $2.97) Westminster Rustic Red Cheddar Cheese from UK, with some cheese crystals, nutty, slightly sharp,
note: unlike the photo above, the package that I got did not say “grass fed.”
According to Westminster, " Sweet, nutty caramelised notes combined with a little savoury bite makes Rustic Red a wonderful cheese. The helveticus culture, (indigenous to the alpine region of Europe) creates a slightly shorter texture and its signature snap/crumble when you bite it…"

$3.99/750 ml. Richard Bruno 2021 Petite Sirah Clarksburg (Yolo County). I haven’t tried the 2021 yet but did have the 2020. Earthy, with tastes of blackberry, coffee, leather, tobacco, oak, mineral finish. Richard Bruno is a winemaker who has worked with Coppola and Don Sebastiani wineries.

I bought that havarti (without dill) at the Las Vegas Grocery Outlet for the same price. It’s quite good!
And I just finished the Rustic Red. It’s also pretty good.
