Maybe we can see more food discounts as food prices stabilize or prices decline?
NY Times Aug 10 -
Food inflation has slowed in recent months, bringing relief to grocery shoppers who have been pinched by higher prices. Still, food prices are much higher than they were a year ago, and costs have been climbing at a faster rate than normal. In the year through July, food prices rose 4.9 percent, down from 5.7 percent in June.
I’’m not aware of a senior discount at our local GO but, last time I was there, the checker told me they do a 10% case-only (12 bottles) wine discount on Thursdays. I’d doubt they’ll do it during their 20% off sale days but I can hope.
The 10% senior discount is now every Tuesday from 7am - 12 pm and I did get the discount on the wine purchased. The definition of “senior” used to be 55 years and older and I think that still holds.
$7.99/750 ml bottle - River and Vine Private Reserve 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, tastes like cinnamon raisin bread, toasted, smeared with pumpkin spices, drizzled with unsalted butter, and eaten alongside blueberry pie. After trying it, I went back for a few more of the heavy bottles with a deep punt.
Here’s a Youtube video from Wine Express on the 2020 vintage (I tasted the 2019) claiming that the grapes are sourced from a Napa winery that sells its cabs for $100/bottle but the reviewer is sworn to secrecy as to the name of the source. Note, however, that the 2020 label says “Napa Valley” while the 2019 reads “Central Coast.”
Some old favorites on the cheese island like the $2.99 Iberico Curado blend from Spain in olive oil made with goat, sheep and cow milk as well as the $3.49 Bulgarian Feta made with sheep’s milk.
Picked up the $6.99 Chateau St Jean 2019 Pinot Noir and the $6.99 Hannah Nicole 2019 Meritage but haven’t tried them yet.
@zippo1 - You are killing me with the River & Vine wine!
I was running errands and drove right past the Burbank GO (SoCa), thinking “Oh I don’t need to stop there today.” Now I wish I had!
We don’t always get the same wines you folks up north do but that wine is well worth a hunt : )
East Hayward GO had Quilted Northern TP for $7.99 (6-roll pack). I believe it’s the old packaging (plastic wrap instead of paper). I also spotted little cans of Milo for $1.50 each.
Recently at Oakland Grocery Outlet - all prices are before any senior discount
$4.99/5.3 oz wedge - Torero Matador Manchego made with sheep’s milk and aged 1 year from La Mancha, Spain. Tastes of hazelnut, excellent and I will get more. It has small stamps on the package that I think say that it is authentic manchego with the certified origin.
Here’s a video on how traditional manchego is made at another creamery.
$4.99/16 bars/1.24 oz each - Autumn’s Gold Cinnamon Almond Grain Free Granola Bars - These are the best granola bars I’ve had - low in net carbs and filled with almonds, pecans, maple syrup, coconut, pumpkin seeds, cinnamon and vanilla. Very chewy and has good online ratings.
$1.99/32 oz. - Milkadamia Unsweetend Vanilla plant milk made with macadamia nuts. I like macadamia nuts but this box is a little thin in density. Passable for a plant milk.
$7.99/750 ml bottle - River and Vine 2019 Central Coast Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon - picked up 2 more bottles.
