I guess now we know the answer to the age-old question⦠āWHEREāS THE BEEF?ā
Itās at @CCEās house, everyone!
Also @linguafood
Haha. Not as bad as the year I laid up 8 of the full roasts! That year I hosted 2 parties with a group of old coworkers. You get 7 large steaks, 1 per bone, generally about 2.75 pounds/1250 grams, +/- a quarter pound. I let them draw straws for the smallest and largest. Not that even the ~2.25 pounder gets finished, so they all have leftovers to take back. They bring the sides and beer.
I do plan to get a 4th full roast today, which hopefully will be my last day in a grocery until after Christmas.
Those folks have it hard enough on Thanksgiving eve and Christmas Eve without me adding to the mix. Luckily all the big chains here do close early on both Eves, and are fully closed on the day.
Lucky coworkers & fam! Iām still on the fence about the rib roast at $5.99lb. Itās still $57 for a āsmallerā one. I was gonna ask in the Aldi thread if anyoneās seen the rib roasts there. They didnāt have any last year, but the previous xmas I waited till January, and they were 50% off.
Nice! Iād be really happy with $6. With what i have so far thatād be about $230 saved.
All the stores here are 9.5 - 10/lb. I (just now, didnāt think about it until your comment) checked the big 3 corps, selecting stores in less affluent areas (even in a neighboring state with a kind of āsouthern rust beltā area about 1.5 hours away), thinking they might be cheaper, but nope.
Edit - Iāve never seen them in Aldi, and my local storeās website doesnāt list it. I did get a hit on prime rib dog foodā¦
My guess is they canāt offer them at the price they did last time around, or itās due to the general shortage. If I make it there today Iāll ask what the scoop is.
I will be heading to Wegmans tomorrow morning before 9 a.m. for my filet mignons from the butcherās counter, and few other things. Then Iām home for awhile. (Canāt WAIT for that!)
Nothing like a xmas eve afternoon spent at the ER ![]()

My local megamart was selling so many SRRs that they didnāt even bother to put them on foam trays! To make 2-, 3-, or 4-bone roasts they were just cutting them and bagging them! Full price was $28/lb., sale price as $13/lb., but if youāre a āmemberā, it was only $8/lb. for choice. Going to season it up now, for reverse-sear tomorrow.
How is your poor PIC doing? Was it diverticulitis?
I am so sorry. I hope this trip works!
Oh no. Hoping itās nothing serious.
It is, so heās on MOAR amoxicillin that did fuckall for his sinus infection that still lingers ![]()
But he also gets to āwearā a catheter until he can see a urologist next week. Apparently (sorry, not the greatest topic for a food board
) heās been storing more urine than is healthy for him, which exacerbated the diverticulitis pain. Ugh.
@mts thank you kindly. Youāve been dealing with so much more serious shit, and for much longer.
Letās hope 2026 is better on all counts. For all of us.
Amen, peace on earth and good will to all, human and four legged!
Cheers!
Iām so sorry to hear that, but at least they were able to diagnose the issue, and start treating him. Hereās hoping for a quick recovery, and that you are able to salvage your Xmas party tonight.
Yeah, partyās been canceled. But thatās alright. Quiet night on the couch with the kitties it is.
Worse things in the world, for sure ![]()
This sounds lovely to me! (Mine are both on the back of the couch right now, butcwill climb down for a cuddle at some point).
Sorry to hear, but itās for the best. The main thing is that your PIC works on healing. After 24 years of marriage, itās just another night. There will be plenty more.
Exactly.
