Thank you…
Sunshine is happy, not in any pain and enjoys herself. So for now, we’ll just keep on going with that.

And well fed…
Yea… about that.
Well, after her cancer surgeries in 2024, Sunshine lost some weight. So, I made some large healthy meals and some of her favorite treats (to put the weight back on). Apparently, I over-did it and now her Primary Care Physician wants her to lose a few pounds.
So we’ll be working on that, as well.
Damn, Dan, so sorry to hear about that! I do think (hope!) there are meds that can slow decline and sometimes even improve a situation for a while.
I don’t recall which one(s) my dad was on, but they gave him easily another year plus before memory care was the remaining alternative. Although like anything else, they’re probably tailored to fairly specific issues.
I think ongoing regular mini test drives like this would be helpful. Good luck as you move forward with this.
I’m really not ready for this. Its too early – its not fair!!
Being selfish, I want more time with Sunshine. Healthy - fun time, not going to the doctors time.
I’m hoping that her PCP will (at least) order a new round of memory tests when we see him on Thursday.
Missing @Phoenikia .![]()
She is still around under a different name. (and also more on FTC)
hi @shrinkrap , it’s me, Phoenikia. I changed my handle to @Zoeliculious. Fresh start. I am too attached to HO to quit cold turkey.
Okay; good!
Seems sort of quiet around here.
Silent night?…or Stille Nacht ![]()
I’m just quietly reading the day’s posts, but I’m here.
Sunshine & I had a quiet relaxing day – we needed one after this week.
Things I learned today: apparently, some producers are no longer referring to blood oranges as such, but rename them “raspberry oranges” for fear of the term “blood” being off-putting to potential buyers. Bc blood is scary, dontcha know?

O tempora, o mores.
I am saving up for the California Dungeness crab season starting on January 5. I already have my recipes memorized, I just need about 200# for the season…![]()
Do tell what you’re planning on making!
I’m having a glass of Sicilian Blood Orange Soda right now, and, I swear, looking for my vampire wrapping paper that I got years ago from Geek Toys (RIP). Obviously a connection…
Silly, especially as people should be accustomed to the name.
But it’s kinda like how (supposedly) marketers introducing rapeseed oil were afraid housewives of the late 70s/early 80s wouldn’t buy a product with “rape” in the name, thus “canola” for “CANadian Oil, Low (erucic) Acid”.
I would have kept/used Erucic in the name, too.
Canolea is more fun to say…
I had NO IDEAR that’s where that name came from! My brain feels so much bigger now ![]()
My brain is a packrat.
My wife used to call me The Font Of Useless Knowledge.
Not kidding.
The random, mostly useless shit I remember could fill libraries. Emphasis on random & useless. Like ancient phone numbers.
Humidity!
Finally a break on humidity! Not the way I usually whine about it, though.
The last (dunno, 10 days or so?) we’ve had afternoon humidity in the low 20% rh range and the last several days in the teens. This time of year we usually are in the 40-50 range (SE US). Skin’s been cracking, nails breaking in bad directions. I’m a dude so I keep them relatively short, but still snapping a big slice vertically on a thumb makes something that sticks out, well, like a sore thumb.
Savings!
Let The Savings Begin! Sort of… Last year prime rib whole packers were $8 a pound, pre-pandemic they were 6$/lb, as against, respectively IIRC, a base price of $18 and about $14.
This year it’s $9.50 as against a supposed base price of $22/lb. So, beef-only, I saved $487 and spent $428. (The 4x5 pound rice instead of a #20 was because the sale price made it the lowest per pound).
I got 2 here then got another at a different store, so, at present, I have about 67 pounds of prime rib in 3 cryovac packs. Packer date at both stores was early December, so I figure they’re good, unopened, until late Feb. Edit - if any of them make it that far…
Not sure if I want to get more. I’m feeding fewer folks more often nowadays.
