What's on your mind? (2024)

I guess I’ll have to go with them and hope my specs don’t fail in a year.

I remember a wise Hindu friend told me –

“Control the controllables” If you can’t control it, then don’t worry about it.

I don’t think he was the originator of that quote, but it was great advice, none the less.

Kinda like the AA motto.

Serenity, strength, wisdom, etc. A little zen goes a long way.

Nothing quite like waking up to the 3rd false fire alarm in a month & a mass-mailing from my pedo uncle with pics of his latest “GF,” another Asian girl who looks 13    :face_vomiting:

Sorry to hear this. I noticed a decline in the quality of their mail order plants after the ownership change and stopped ordering a few years ago. I hope someone can revive the business.

Third false fire alarm? Yikes, not good! Any idea who is setting them off?

And even more not gooder is the other thing you mentioned - which I won’t.

Honestly can’t believe I’m related to that piece of excrement.

He had “his assistant” — very likely himself, but he likes to pretend that he’s rich & famous  — email my mother a month after she’d passed (after not having been in touch for eons) to see if she’d want to meet up with him. My sis replied to him that his SISTER had died, and even if she were alive she would have no interest in doing so.

Barf. I may have some choice words for him if I respond, but it’s unlikely. Utter waste of time on an utter waste of space.

Poor, poor kitty. I hope he was able to snuggle through the alarm.

Let it go, there is no value to that association.
As I always say, “Remember the best and forget the rest”.
Now, if I could practice what I preach all the time.:confounded:

Oh, absolutely. To waste even a second on composing a nasty reply would be too much.

I briefly considered sharing the ‘collage’ he sent along, in which the poor girl looks more like hostage than GF, but I don’t want to ruin everyone else’s day

She did make it home, and got over whatever was making her feel sick in just a couple of days.

Her university has now canceled classes this week and the next two following.

I’m not sure how they’re going to make up a 3-week deficit. Maybe they’ll go an extra couple of weeks into the summer.

Nice to read some good news for a change!

That might be more the blame of whoever it is that is contracting with VSP. Both of our employers offered VSP.

Mine was great in terms of the allowances for frames/lenses/contact lenses and the amount of the exam/fitting fees (if contact lenses) that were covered. (Not that I ever got new frames - I think maybe 2 in 25 years; but also I most often wear contact lenses.)

The plan offered by my wife’s employer was one of those stupidyheaded plans, covering about 1/2 of what mine did.

Then I retired, and so we have the stupidyheaded plan now.

Check out Zenni Optical. [Edit - I now see that @pilgrim already covered this]. I haven’t looked at them in a long time(*) but they were very inexpensive for both lenses and frames. They had some good looking stuff, just not the high-fashion frames with some celebrity’s name on them.

(*) about 15 years ago I was undergoing a medical procedure that caused a rapid and large increase in my myopia, and the doc recommended them since I was going to need new lenses about every 2 weeks.

ETA - hey, “My Myopia” could be a song title…

Love. It. Hard not to head-bang to it, but…last time I did that to just one verse of a song (at most) I felt like I needed a neck brace the next day.
