What's on your mind? (2024)

The freezes I thought were the most impressive — such control! And Shigekix looked like a flippin’ rubber ball!

That was an amazing race. I enjoy many of the track events too and watched Noah Lyles’ events. He is a home town boy and graduated same year as my son from TC Williams HS.

I was speaking to a woman last week whose son swam with Chris Guiliano (of the 4x100 and 4x200 mens freestyle swimming relay) in high school. She noted that when she said “swam with” she meant “swam behind” She also seemed more impressed by the fact that his swimming earned him a free ride to Notre Dame than by his Olympic medals.

I can’t imagine training all those years ad then contracting COVID at the Olympics. Glad he got his gold first.

Dang! I love watching the event, but back in the days when we had both a winter and summer olympics in the same year, our P.E. teachers forced us to perform the most asinine ribbon and ball routines. Gawd, I hated doing those routines.
We were wanna-be winter olympians, anyway.

My most memorable gym moment was being in the same class as Dr Phil.
Not a happy memory. Especially dodgeball.

Oh you poor, poor thing! I immediately change the channel if his mug shows up on TV. My condolences.

I really hope none of them develop Long COVID. It’s really important to rest and not push oneself when one has COVID in order to avoid chances of developing Long COVID.

I hope the coaches also aren’t pushing the athletes who are already sick.

So, so sorry for your experience!

I hope you followed Patches O’Houlihan’s 5 Ds of Dodgeball! “dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge!”

Through a foul up in scheduling. A bunch of us scrawny sophomores got stuck in a class full of senior football players. We didn’t thrive.

God, I hated Dodge Ball. I was tiny, and skinny, and Dodge ball was bully torture.

So he’s always been an asshole.

Yes. I’ve related this before but he asked for an appearance fee to attend his 50th reunion.
The organizing committee told him to F off.
He didn’t attend.

No great loss, and that is UNBELIEVABLE.

Wow. Just wow. Well, I suppose that at least you have a story to tell.

Funny, last year Germantown Academy (a school in the burbs of Philly) had a reunion. Guess who was there? Bradley Cooper–he was in town for something and took the opportunity to catch up with his old classmates. I don’t recall anyone saying he was paid to attend. The reunion was in a brew pub in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of the city and it looked like everyone was having a good time.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess Bradley is a bigger star than Dr. Phil.

About the only thing a congenital heart defect has going for it is that it got me COMPLETELY excused from P.E. In high school. I was miserable all through middle school, with the teacher eventually taking pity on me and letting me run the scoreboard during basketball (I could NOT run up and down a court for 20 minutes at a time). When my doctor offered me the chance to opt out completely, I leaped at it in what remains the most athletic moment of my life. (Not really. I ran a 5k once).

But NOT going through the daily hazing ritual that was high school P.E. and the locker room has meant I only need therapy every OTHER week.

Having a mighty hard time cheerleading for someone’s accomplishments when they are not entirely honest about how they got there.

Am I the only one?
