That’s really sweet of you! The pattern I have is Abundance. But if you ever head out to Eastham, give me a shout. We could go out for lunch together!!
I’ve seen them advertised. I think they’re called Thundershirts. I just wrap my guy up in a throw blanket and hold him tight - he’s a little over 60 lbs. Not sure if the shirt would freak him out more than the noise. He’s incredibly sensitive for as bold as he is.
Today we experienced the most intense thunderstorm of our lives! Sadly, the rain gauge went on the fritz the other day and I haven’t been able to get it working. We had 4, count them 4!, thunder, rain and hail dumps. One delivered thumbnail sized hail. It was crazy, the cats all disappeared to different hiding spots at different times (under our bed, in a closet,on a mending pile in my workroom). Right now, 7:50pm MDT, all is calm and the cats are resting. The fireworks started at 6pm a few nights ago. The poor cats will be traumatized for at least another week or so. No restrictions in our area.
Supposed to be 106 degrees here Saturday. I might even wear shorts. Well it is pizza Saturday fourth of July weekend .
I’m waiting for snow now😵
Not me . I like it hot
I’ll take snow over hot any day. Getting warm is an easier calibration than cooling off for me.
When your driveway is 380 feet . It takes on a new meaning in the snow.
Yes, it does! I’ve seen your winter photos. We moved from the snowy hills of central MA to outer Cape Cod. We’re 2 gardening zones different and have milder winters with much less snow. Every few years we get slammed with a Nor’easter, but for some reason we both like bad weather…in short spurts.

Looks like we’re right on par with the averages here (basically, 90/70) for the next 15 days shown by weather(.)com. We do need more rain, though. I might have to start watering the front lawn at least. The back lawn has the benefit of being more shaded.
I am waiting for the AC evaporators to start freezing up and I’ll have to add refrigerant. Happens to one or the other of them about every 2nd year. One unit is 25 and the younger one is 22. I was in the replacement planning stages when all heck broke loose from a pandemic and supply line standpoint. My cost since then has gone from maybe $15K for both units to around $23K. Wish I’d gotten off my keister back in 2019…
Oh well, bite the bullet and pull out the checkbook sometime this fall when I’m not using either heating or cooling.
Those little shits!
My sister and I have this debate any time one of us loses power due to a storm. She thinks losing power in the heat is preferable.
If I’m going to lose power (it doesn’t happen often, but when it does it can be 2-3 days) I want it to happen in the winter. I can put the frozen food on the screened in patio and the refrigerated stuff in the garage. And I do’t mind wearing heavy clothes, lighting a fire and collecting the many blankets in case clothing is not enough. I can also sleep in the cold–a few blankets and the bed can actually get warm.
Losing power in the heat and humidity is just a glimpse of hell. Frozen and refrigerated food is a loss. And I cannot sleep when I’m uncomfortably hot and sweaty. I can sit out on the patio to try to catch a breeze during the day, but it’s still hot and sticky.
Thank you. You made my morning start off brighter.
Been there… done that!! Sunshine and I sit on the back porch and spray/mist each other with the hose nozzle until the power comes back on.
My power company is good about texting updates on the situation.
I have never been more grateful for, or more more convinced of the superiority of Municipal-owned utilities like SMUD here in sac. Or rates are stable, way WAY lower than pg&e, and when outages do occur (VERY infrequently) they are measured in minutes and occasionally hours. Never days.
Nothing like coming home to medical bills, one of which is a co-pay of $800 for my 6-month cancer screening.
No wonder people here go broke and end up homeless, with or without insurance.
The US health care system is a fucking joke.
Another weird aspect of the healthcare system: call the provider and you can almost always negotiate a lower cost. (And yes, it sucks that you have to devote time and energy to such matters.)
I had one co-pay that was supposed to be $250, but the bill came in at $600 for anesthesia.
I called the accountant at my doctor’s office (surgeon that did the procedure) and he confirmed my co-pay was supposed to be $250, as they had previously negotiated that with the anesthesiologist.
It took 16 phone calls, (one every two weeks) to finally get a corrected bill that said $250, which I promptly paid.
I was NOT going to let them overcharge me.
