The 89 loma prieta earthquake. 6.9 . October 17th .
I was 10 miles from the epicenter. I remember looking at the ground. Scared shi… waiting for the earth to open up , saying. " Not now ". I have been through lots of earthquakes . But this one was much different.
Yep, that double whammy 2 years apart ('89 & '91) sure put our nerves on edge. We vowed to leave the BA as soon as we could. It took 9 years and we’re so grateful we could leave. It got so that every time we had a quake, I could tell which fault (we had 3) it was on by the way the crystal prism balls spun in the kitchen windows. Kaiser couldn’t figure out why I had quake related PTSD. I had been in the ‘71 San Fernando quake, too. Shakin’ all over!
Where did you go?
NW Rockies. Far, far away from the BA and hundreds of years backasswards, politically.
Electricity is back on!
Stay safe! Are you near there?
I am not.
Looks familiar, those eucalyptus trees just explode!
'Tis the season! @ChristinaM which is why it’s on my mind, and because my daughter lives there,
That looks like someone holding an opossum in broad daylight to show it off for rescue. Opossums are nocturnal creatures. Give them a break ok. Some rescue people have no clue.
She says it needs sun once a week. Not so?
“Yes, opossums need some exposure to sunlight to get vitamin D, which is important for calcium metabolism. In general, opossums need about 30 minutes of sunlight per week. However, the angle of the sun during the winter months and in more northern latitudes may require longer exposure.”
Yep, my bad I guess.
Not bad; concerned! I had to tell her it was the best looking opossum I had ever seen! She (the opposum) looked pretty happy, too!
That is one big ‘possum’! They’re omnivorous, right?, at least the ones I knew were.
Sounds like you have more experience than I!
I only know what I’ve read, and I’ve read they will eat anything!
I saw the fattest, most plushy, happy opossum munching away on our compost heap in the early evening last summer. I’d never seen one that looked so clean and healthy.
Two times, I heard noise in my backyard and came out to find opossums lying still on the ground near my dogs. I shook my head sadly. It was nighttime, so I left the animals there to clean up in the morning. Both times, they were gone in the morning. The opossums had been playing possum! Very convincingly.
Yes, as our compost bin is proof
