What's for lunch (2026)

I made a single serving microwave hot and sour soup that was surprisingly good, using a large fresh shiitake mushroom, no tofu and a whole egg. I’m sure the tofu would have better lasting-till-dinner power.

Ordinarily I am a fan of Central Market, but today I was at a lunch meeting that offered CM boxed lunches. I had a turkey sandwich and chips. The chips were excellent. The sandwich was weird. Two not particularly good or bad slices of wheat bread contained a not horrid leaf of lettuce, a fine large slice of tomato, a slice of havarti, and over an inch of sliced turkey. There was no mustard, mayonnaise, butter, or special sauce, just an immense pile of turkey.

I’ve had lunch 4 times in 2 weeks - kind of a record for me lately (last few years, I mean).

This was another wrap. Lupini bean hummus down one side, a “extra veggie” cream cheese down the other, (Tillamook, ordinarily wouldn’t buy but half price sale, decided “why not” and like it quite a bit), warmed medium rare ribeye steak slices and avocado down the middle, drenched with a bit of jalapeno cheese dip (another non-normal “half price” buy). The lupini bean hummus was much coarser this time because I used the mini food processor. It just doesn’t have the juice to really get it smooth. I might try my Dremel as a driver next time.

It was pretty good, but it was really missing the nice tart crunch of kimchi that I had in my other sandwich. I need to make more kimchi…

Went with tapas-like meals for lunch and dinner today. Lunch was Manchego, membrillo, and Marcona almonds with two dots of a slightly aged balsamic; some rolled prosciutto, and green grapes.
