ha…I’m with you in regards to Fox news
It can’t be any worse I suppose than those
preformed gefilte fish logs…gag
I miss my grandmothers’
The grocery store gefilte fish is nasty. I baked mine so no simmering in fish broth.
It went over very well, even for those that said they don’t like gefilte fish.
My grandmother use to make gefilte fish as well. Coming from Syria it was not something she grew up with
You have piqued my curiosity
I kinda followed this recipe
http://www.williams-sonoma.com/m/recipe/gefilte-fish-loaf-with-beet-horseradish-cream.html
I was actually referring to you grandmothers story…but I’m so glad you posted this
recipe. I am so going to make this, minus the tilapia of course. I don’t think I have
ever seen such an uncomplicated recipe for gefilte fish…looks so good
All my grandparents were born in middle eastern countries. Syria,Turkey and Eygpt. Countries that were at that time friendly to Jews who “left” Spain.
My mom’s mom was a fabulous cook. Spent most of her life in the south. A master at Southern and Syrian food. I have to think I got a fair amount of my love of cooking from her. Her wiki page https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salha_“Mama”_Bobo
For me the cooking light bulb went off in my head during an organic chemistry lab. You didn’t have to measure precisely. This + this = that, except in baking which I do very little of. To much like quantitative analysis
Upcoming …gammon steaks. They go in a baking tray and get a heavy smear of Dijon mustard. Orange juice is then drizzled over. Goes in the oven at 180 for 30 minutes, by which times the orange has evaporated off somewhat, mingled with the mustard to become a sort of sweet/sour thick sauce.
To accompany, Jersey Royal spuds and purple sprouting brocolli.
Did part of your family have a shoe store in downtown Clearwater? If so I knew them - went to Sunday school with one of the boys.
I wouldn’t mind being you tonight. (Or last night, as I just realized you posted this 12 hours ago.)
Hi, Cath:
Couldn’t be simpler. Morel mushrooms are sliced lenthwise, 1/4" wide, sauteed in butter and Herbs de Provence, given a small splish of the Luberon, and then drowned in heavy cream with a little chicken stock. Simmer on very low heat until sauce thickens and mushroom flavor intensifies. Pour over steamed, buttered asparagus tips.
Leftover sauce makes a great soup starter–if you can resist slurping it straight.
Aloha,
Kaleo
Our English friends used to fix these but they grilled or pan fried.
This morning, while reading about Iceland being the happiest place on earth, I came across this little gem: A common Icelandic saying:
“Better to go barefoot than without books.”
~ BBC.com
WFD: BBQ Chicken. Cornbread. Baked Beans. Maybe a quick slaw, maybe not.
Our Fickle Friday dinner tonight comes to us courtesy of WF. G did yeoman’s service in the kitchen this week therefore, He “deserves a break today”.
If I had any brains at all I’d try to stop planning dinner menus as if I were still cooking in the kitchen every day.

Let me guess. Was this BBC quote anything to do with a Rick Stein programme? Stein, who I suspect you may have heard of, is a seafood chef in southwest England and has been doing TV series for years. His latest is based on long weekends away - places you could easily get to from the UK in an hour or so. And one of his places, which we were only watching last night, was Iceland. Looks a lovely place to visit for a few days, although I’m not sure how much I fancied the food. Just going to watch the next programme - Berlin (a city Mrs H has visited for work but I’ve not yet been - don’t worry, lingua, one day I will)
Yes. Which one? Ralph or Alan which is me
Gio, I especially love this since we’re going to Iceland in December. Thanks, my friend.
So you’ve been there??? Excellent as we’re going at the end of the year. Sorry you didn’t care for the food. Any tips for betters experiences?
Taco night from a pop up at the local brewery . Yay Friday .
I had a tenderloin wet aging in the outside fridge going on near 2 months. Figured I’d clean it and cut it in portions today. With the scraps and the chain I made ground meat for burgers tonight. That part of the plan went well, but…it was such a beautiful day I drove to the nearest state park, Honeymoon Island and spent the latter part of the afternoon walking the beach until sunset. Did something I rarely do. I locked my wallet and cash in the glove box in case I got too far in the Gulf. Wouldn’t you know it. My key would not open the glove box lock when getting back to the car. No amount of jiggling and pounding will change the situation. And I fly out to Kentucky on Wed and need my ID and I was asked to work tomorrow last minute so my free time to deal with crap just got shorter. Well at least the burgers turned out well
Oh yikes. Poor you. But those burgers look great. Travel well.
Ralph Bobo was in my confirmation class. Ralph (? ) Rophie was a year older iirc. My family had the larger shoe store downtown.
Small world! Hopefully we can connect the dots when I’m in Palm Harbor in June!
