He would love it!
He (and I) would love your food. But FL isn’t either of our faves. Sorry, buddy. Come to Tahoe.
Meetings in NYC today so that means dinner with my friends at Empire Steakhouse. Beautiful new location at 151 E. 50th I can’t recommend it highly enough. Apps were shrimp cocktail-oysters-bacon. Entrees was a porterhouse for 2, creamed spinach and I couldn’t resist a little truffle Mac-n-cheese.
WFD: Creamed Salmon and Green Peas with Mushrooms. Peas; tinned salmon; white wine; mushrooms; oregano; S & P. Medium white sauce with 1/2 & 1/2 and juice from salmon can, etc. Salmon, peas, and mushrooms added to sauce to heat through. Ladled onto grilled and buttered rustic bread.
Atypical ole-timey childhood staple with calories galore. Will have to rustle up a salad to offset the guilt, but my brain is telling me to use a blue cheese dressing. I’ll try to resist.
Is “tinned” salmon the same as canned?
Actually tomorrow’s dinner. We’re visiting friends in the Napa Valley and they’re really not into cooking. So I’m taking Hazan’s green lasagna. Even with the Bolognese sauce already made it’s still a big job. Takes Bob AND me quite a while.
So worth it, though. Looks gorgeous!
I was just telling him that. A few years ago I made soup dumplings. They were medium okay but not worth the effort IMO. Whereas that lasagna is SO darn good
Not a clue. I’ve been on this salad-topped-with-chicken run for a few days now, and while effective weight-wise, I’m getting a little bored with it.
However, I’m working 8-11, and no way I’m eating beforehand. Most restos here don’t serve food past 11 pm… so my man suggested chicken wings! I may just go with that. Because, you know. Chicken. Can’t get enough of it
It would actually be different enough from my usual prep. Or we’ll do a freezer/fridge scrounge: there’s Wegmans’ lobster bisque, TJ’s soup dumplings, TJ’s pastrami salmon… scotch, gin. Not too worried at this point. But my man’s on his own tonight.
Woke up this morning with a headache, stuffy head, and slightly swollen glands. Dead tired as well. None of that has abated. Flu? Strep? Allergies? Low pressure system because of the rain? Combination of some or all of it? Who knows. I’m looking forward to sleep tonight. And hope it’s gone tomorrow. Probably wishful thinking since all of my department’s team members have been sick with bronchitis over the past month or two.
Had hoped to leave work around 3; yeah, that didn’t happen. I’ll reserve comment about working while others played.
Dinner is steak tips - they’ve been marinating in a combo of olive oil, red wine, teriyaki sauce, Dijon mustard, honey, minced rosemary, garlic, Aleppo pepper, and dried minced onion since last night. Grilled on the grill pan; finished in the oven. They ended up being a nice medium-rare.
Baked tater with butter, salt, pepper, and sour cream, and peas and corn.
And while I probably shouldn’t have had it, I had a glass of wine. I’ll probably be out like a light in a couple of hours.
That looks great! But tell me, what are “steak tips”? I saw them mentioned in a recipe but have no clue what they are. TIA and feel better.
They seem to be a New England/northern Mid-Atlantic states term. It’s from the sirloin area, often called sirloin tips. Sometimes you find them whole in strips, and other times, cut into large chunks.
Here’s an article from J. Kenji Lopez-Alt about them:
Thank you SO much for this! I’ve seen flap steak occasionally but don’t remember it being “cheap.” But yours and Kenji’s sure do look good.
Are you in Palm Harbor?
Dunedin
Wow Linda . I can barely look at food when I’m not feeling well . Good for you . I would have folded up like a lawn chair . Goes to show that women are much stronger than men .
My beloved salad too! made it very often, like the extra oomph for waking up other ingredients.
Efficient use of language! I hope you feel better now.
Ouch only 5 posts in WFD this month, need to hurry up!!
Still a very busy week, so please forgive me if I post several meals at the same time. Did some cooking, the rest of the time, reheating the left over of these dishes.
Tuesday: Pork ribs marinated with soy sauce, honey, ginger and garlic, Bucatini with onion confit and gorgonzola sauce.
Another dinner: Herring stuffed with potato and cod brandade.
Thursday: Oven cooked chicken on a bed of bell peppers and rice, with tomatoes. Crispy chicken skin and the roasted rice resembles the paella.
Very proud of the cooking, since I finished the day job, and there was another urgent freelance job that night, and managed to still make a delicious dinner. Worked until 3 am.
