Some pics from last night: went bar hopping with the BF for his birthday. Everywhere from classy and sophisticated to a legendary dive that hasn’t changed since the 70s. An epic night:

Stop1: Lambertville Station

The simple joy of a Sazerac and bread basket.

Stop 2: GreenHouse

Stop 3: John and Peter’s. A friend met us out there.

Stop 4: Miller’s Ale House

Surprisingly good fajitas!

Sunday we dined at Assado Portuguese Steakhouse, in Livingston, NJ for the first, and last time. Don Pepe II is much better food wise while Assado is a nicer looking place. We started off with rubbery clams casino; crab stuffed crab which was mostly breading; and chistorra (shrimp, mushrooms and greasy chorizo in a crappy garlic sauce). The entrees were better; Mrs. P had twin broiled lobster tails with light and crispy homemade potato chips and I had a pretty good surf and turf kebob with filet mignon, shrimp, and sautéed vegetables (although the carrots were raw and hard as a rock). It was a very nice presentation. At least we had some outstanding wines (Shiraz and cabernet) to go with it. I was going to order Paella Valenciana to go but decided against it. I ended up ordering it tonight from Don Pepe II, and there was enough for 3 dinners.

Often your photos don’t load for me and I’m always disappointed! I use a MacBook. I got to see your drinks, but not your food. Happy Birthday to your SO.

Steam broccoli…

Please explain

Mistyped. Simply steamed broccoli. In our case, microwaved under a dome until al dente. Sorry for confusion.

Ah, thought you were going to teach me a new way to prepare them!

I want…that!

Tonight I made oven-crisped breaded tofu batons topped with scallions, cashews, and this sauce, which I didn’t like, and to which I added leftover Cantonese honey-garlic sauce, rice vinegar, and chili-garlic sauce. It was aight. Sides of steamed sugar snaps with butter, black vinegar, and sweet soy and buttered ww pasta with sesame oil and seeds.

Our version of Cincinnati Chili tonight. I’d never had this dish before, the BF had never even heard of it, but he’d made a giant pot of Rancho Gordo 3 bean chili and we had the shells. I really liked the texture of the shells with the chili, but I wanted more cheese - i blame the BF. White onions and scallions, and Frank’s Red Hot. Plus the BF’s sauteed zucchini.

Fried chicken sandwiches on toasted, homemade ciabatta. Topped with slaw in vinaigrette, Frank’s hot sauce, honey, and dill pickles.

that looks fantastic! is that breast? it looks very juicy, and I usually don’t like most fried chicken sandwiches because they’re usually made with breast meat. Great job!

Dinner out tonight at a semi-chain in our area that’s wildly popular to wrap up BFs birthday “weekend”. Our first time trying. The pizza was actually very good, better than most pizzerias around here. I had a personal with chicken, vodka sauce, and basil while mom had one with prosciutto and arugula. Neither of us finished. BF ordered a pork Katsu sandwich from the specials menu and loved it. For appetizers, we shared an awesome General Tso’s Cauliflower and a jumbo pretzel. Great atmosphere inside and was very busy for a Monday.

After two nights out in a row, I’m ready to cook (and not drink!) for several nights!
