What's For Dinner #72 - Wait, Summer Is Almost Over? Edition - August 2021

We always traded with food, specialties of the place visited. Much better than souvenirs, objects that you don’t know if the others would appreciate, probably most of the time ended in trash.

Yup. End of the yard chard. I stripped the increasingly seedy looking plants. Cut them to the ground and hope they might rejuvenate. Or not… It’s been a good run.

I like to do the same and also appreciate food gifts. And of course, I do enjoy pet sitting too. Have DD2’s two cats presently and they’ve finally stopped hissing
at me! :upside_down_face:

I need to post this image in a place to keep me on the straight and narrow of my goals.

Since we are neighbours, the cat knows me well, no hissing. So well that, when I met him outdoors in whatever time of the day, he would try to lead me to his home to serve him meals. To him, I’m his WFD.

LOL! Alfalfa’s stare can certainly be disconcerting. But half the time he’s entered the Kitty Twilight Zone without any rhyme or reason. You’d think he’s stoned on kitty nip, but nope. This is just his usual M.O. His brain just let’s go and he enters his own little world.:cat:

Lol that is too funny @naf ! I’m definitely my cat’s WFB, WFL, AND WFD! She tries to get snacks too!

Few more dinners of late:

Tasty all, and garden green beans - rice pilaf, wild salmon, spaghetti sauce from leftover pizza ingredients. Also rotisserie chicken, garden broccolini and salad. DD2 & SIL shared the bruschetta, salmon, rice pilaf and green beans with us before leaving on a short vacation. We have their cats! Forgot to say homemade baguette for the bruschetta.

I have succumbed to “Ina’s pasta”. A combo of sun sugar and black cherry tomatoes. Caesar salad with anchovy croutons. Thanks all you Ina’s pasta people and whoever posted about the anchovy croutons.
Stepson pruned the Brown Turkey fig tree and discovered two huge ripe figs. One was consumed at once (shared) and the other was dessert with sour cream and date syrup.

Dinner was somewhere between gambas al ajillo and scampi, with snap peas added for veg.

For all the tomato people - I had a late lunch / early appetizer of a yellow tomato gratin with croutons - I could have sworn I saw this somewhere this week: here, NYT, somewhere… but now I can’t find it. It was really good! Lots of garlic, slightly caramelized onions, tomatoes, and then previously pan-fried croutons (homemade ww bread that’s finally down to the last slice) nestled in to soak up juices. A bit of cheese grated over and finished in the oven for a few minutes. Very intensely tomatoey!

Tonight - red curry chicken with garden beans, Swiss chard, and basil. Market vegetables for all else. Over a combo of Calrose and cauliflower rice.

Looks like you had a wonderful trip with delicious eats!

Tuesday night dinner for H and friends. Guy friends were camping at a local state beach park. H prepped all the fixings for pizza, packed it up with the Ooni, and spent the night with his friends. They’d been camping a couple days, so the pizzas were a great success. So, have Ooni will travel is what it was. Sorry no pics of finished pies, he was lucky to get these.

There was also pepperoni, ham, Italian sausage and a variety of cheeses, but not that visible in photo.

It was a gift from a client.

Wow ! Reminds me of a Galician Empanada except the pie crust is very different but it is prepared with a variety of seafood inside.

Really wonderful labours !!! Remarquable !!!

Super looking salmon …

That’s pretty luxe camping! Not like the old days of the pump-up Colman stove, or setting a grid over a circle of rocks!
