What's For Dinner #58 - the Uncertain Certain Summertime Edition -June 2020

Danger? That’s a bad thing? :joy:

Gorgeous. Can’t wait till I get back to that point…

Repurposed chicken breast into a salad was WFD tonight. Oven baked a few Ore Ida Tater Tots showered with grated Parmesan as a “go with”. Resulted in a Smiley, Smile dinner.

We are very similar.

Tanqueray for G & T’s. Also Bombay Sapphire for a more pronounced version and also martinis. Hendrick’s as a special treat martini.

I also like Gin Lane 1751 Old Tom Gin for a certain martini where I switch Lillet for vermouth. The Old Tom is a different and historic gin that is sweeter. Goes good with the Lillet and an orange peel.

I’ve also sampled every middle tier and bottom shelf gin there is for my blog. Recently I’ve found that Conciere is a good replica of Tanqueray for half the price…not floor cleaner like Burnett’s LOL.

If I’m slumming it for a G & T, Gordon’s is just fine. But never in a martini.

That was WFD here, too. Grilled BBQ chicken and triple creme brie panini with leftover vinegar slaw.

Also, I didn’t mind New Amsterdam “Stratusphere” gin for its citrus notes. However, you do get what you pay for. Its their own unique blend. But they did just release a London Dry Gin style a few weeks ago that I’m eager to try.

@escaped - are you talking about the English Gardens going down a little too easily or the scary New Amsterdam Gin? Think the latter could make you go blind :joy::joy:

Your plating reminds me how much I adore bread. @ChristinaM

Never had Old Tom’s, will def try the Conciere, and totally agree about Gordon’s. Seagrams - ugh, never again. Beefeaters ok too.

Ok, haven’t tried the Stratusphere, but am def up for it, as well as the New London style. Just didn’t like the vanilla note in the regular stuff. I am a gin girl, as you can tell…:monkey:

New Amsterdam is super cheapo, haven’t tried it! I buy their vodka for the BF because he couldn’t care less about the taste of his booze.

My current faves: Bluecoat, Hendricks (and its seasonal variations), St. George Botanivore, St. George Terroir. Tanq was my favorite for a million years until I tried St. George’s. Last year I had a martini made with Monkey 47 Schwarzwald at a restaurant and LOVED it, but it’s very pricey (to me). Also recently bought Aviation. Not impressed. I use it in my bloody marys. :slightly_smiling_face:

Ditto

Thanks for your opinions - have wondered about the Aviation, and will try it along with the St George variations, and the Monkey 47, as you mentioned. Can’t recall seeing that one up here, but Hendricks is easy to find @mariacarmen.

Beefeater I like too. Forgot about them. Solid all around gin for most uses. Seagram’s is MEH. They have a lime flavor that I wouldn’t try in a million years.

Looks really good, and refreshing too, @RedJim.

Honestly, I was impressed with Conciere. Both in flavor and scent. It was $9.99 for a liter and billed as “Tanqueray at half the price”. Pretty close. Also, they have a high end label for the price. They are trying to put out a good product, unlike Burnett’s which is garbage.

Bluecoat was my dad’s favorite. I buy a bottle on his birthday every year. When he passed away, there was an empty martini glass by his favorite chair from the night before. He had a Bluecoat martini and I could smell the gin and vermouth for days. I didn’t want to wash the glass. Next week will be three years.
