A HUGE potluck lunch today before the Yankee Swap. In the crockpots or hot dishes there was pulled pork, pulled chicken, pernil, spicy rice, fried plantains, meatballs, mac and cheese, and chicken wings (which never got hot because the person didn’t know what she was doing) and sausages in a BBQ sauce.
Desserts were cookies (store-bought and homemade), stollen, Christmas crack, cannolis, cheesecake, candy, a pumpkin gingerbread cake, and a candy Chex mix.
Oh man, my mom always used to have a box of Bisquick in the pantry…! The closest she would ever get to making a casserole was using the bisquick for dumplings ontop of a chicken pot pie style situation- she was/is anti-casserole due to a casserole laden childhood herself. Also used for fast mix and bake biscuits to go with dinner at least once a week. Good stuff
I do remember having bisquick impossible pie things at my bffs house, and they rocked my world. Awesome budget friendly mix and bake things.
Seriously random mid afternoon “holiday surprise” at work today- we are SO slammed trying to get everything done this week it was like wtf is going on here… yes, those were apparently acapella singing barber’s quartet men in santa hats singing christmas carols… What the what!!!
New to me delivery place tonight that apparently doesn’t read the notes section on the delivery app order- whatever, i managed to pick off most of the feta and it’s not a dealbreaker for me the way fish sauce or chicken broth is. “Greek salad” that was really just lettuce tomatoes lots of olives (yay!) too much raw red onion and the feta which tasted like, white. I’m hardly a feta expert but nothing interesting there.
Picked up what might be my most favorite chocolate bar when I spotted it at the coffee shop snack bins, fun fact is this flavor is vegan! Crazy delicious, i’ll certainly have a chunk with my tea, it’s too rich to have much more at a time
I’m following now. Thanks for the link. My mom uses Bisquick to make her shortbreads in strawberry shortcakes. That is the extent of my Bisquick knowledge.
The directions for this seemed wildly unseasoned to me. I used better than bullion, dried spices and way more salt. I’ve never made hulled barley before but it seemed to never really get more tender. After an hour (maybe 90 min) just gave up and ate it. Maybe this is just how it is??
Good idea on the soaking. I’ll do that next time for sure. I really liked the dish after tweaking but straight out of the gate, wow this would have been bland!
