Pizza night: 4 prosciutto cotto and mozzarella, 4 prosciutto cotto, mushrooms, shallots, roasted peppers, mozzarella and a large handful of ramps. Finally, I made enough pizza for leftovers so no one pouts when there’s not enough the next day.
They look gorgeous!
We enjoyed another sensational dinner at The Farmer’s Daughter, in Newton, NJ, including homemade chips with lobster and caviar; warm boursin topped with caramelized onion jam; crab egg rolls; fried clam with homemade cocktail sauce; lamb chops with a cherry sauce; Spring radish and asparagus salad. It all went great with an excellent cabernet and red Zinfandel. The menu at the end gives more details. There were a ton of leftovers.
Fish and chips yet again. The batter had wheat, potato, and rice flour, thicker than before, so the black cod had a satisfying crunch. A dab of dijonnaise.
Pizza Saturday. Base cooked with fresh mozzarella. Topped with Creme Fraiche mixed with chopped dill , smoked salmon, red onion , and fried capers. Cheers.
Our friend dropped off clams. He travels to South Jersey about every other month and often picks up fresh off the boat clams for his friends (we’re very luck to be on the friend list). We decided to try something different and came across a recipe with chorizo and tequila, which sounded like a good combination. It is.
After spending the afternoon at a short gallery visit then shopping I came home to a flooding kitchen. I called the super who came over and turned off the water to the pipe that burst then cleaned up the water and there was actually very little damage done. The only thing left unserviceable is my stove since water leaked into the inner workings so cooking food is out of the question right now so no risotto for dinner for me last night. Pizza to the rescue!
I now have to figure out what to have for dinner tonight. I’m going to Chinatown this afternoon and plan on picking up some ribs for dinner but I won’t be able to make the chow mein I was looking forward to
I’m sure I will figure something out.
Oh no, that really sucks
How long will your oven be out of service?
Probably just a couple of days. I live in an apartment building and they have back up appliances on site. The property manager has to come to inspect the damage first and I’m not expecting him until tomorrow.
Hopefully sooner rather than later. I had a somewhat similar experience last year when the lower heating element broke and I was without the oven for about a week, luckily I sourced the element fairly quickly from a local company. Unfortunately they’ve discontinued that particular part so if it breaks again I’ll probably have to replace the whole oven ![]()
Ugh! Hopefully he’ll be replacing it quickly this coming week!
The property management company I am renting from has been pretty quick in the past so I’m sure I won’t have to wait too long.
Check eBay first!
My friend invited us over last night for grilled lemon garlic chicken tenders, a quinoa salad with tomatoes and feta by Ina Garten, and grilled baby gem with buttery breadcrumbs and vinaigrette. It was all delicious. I brought wine and pulled leftover Sachertorte from the freezer to contribute.
Hopefully I’ll be outta here before that happens ![]()
Oh, no!
We hosted a poker game last night, and one of our friends was kind enough to pick up sushi for everyone. We chowed down on jalapeño yellowtail, a yellowtail & avocado roll, and a rainbow roll while his partner (who’s developed an eating disorder pretty late in life) pushed around 2 pieces of maki and a few edamame on her plate before leaving it. Heartbreaking to watch ![]()
My boo and I both broke even. We’re having hot pot tonight that I’m already looking forward to, as it’s cold & dark as night outside at 10 AM.
