Taste before looks . Wins .
Chilled Soba Noodles with Cucumber, Snow Peas, and Radishes from a CI recipe - mix of soba noodles, snow peas, cucumbers, scallions and radishes and a vinaigrette with white miso, mirin, toasted sesame oil, ginger, toasted sesame seeds and red pepper flakes
It actually looks really good! And how is Sunshine’s thumb? (I think it’s her thumb that is injured?}
She is going to two Physical Therapy sessions a week. The therapist gave her additional “homework” (hand/thumb exercises) to do twice a day. So far, we have been to three sessions. I think its too early to tell if the recommended 12 sessions will do the trick.
Yes, her thumb was injured in a fall (while reaching into the back of the pantry). Just an oddball accident, I guess. I’ve since moved all of her commonly used items to the front (middle shelf) at eye level.
Glad to hear she’s going for physio and I hope she heals soon. I worked with someone that broke her arm falling out of a chair a few years ago
She had an outdoor cat and was shooing it from under the lawn chair she was sitting in and down she went. She was wearing a cast after then physio. It took ages for her arm to heal.
Yes… its these oddball little accidents that will do us in.
Dinner tonight was a farmers sausage from the farmers market, acorn squash from last year’s CSA and a Proverbial
Ton of peas. This is the first time I’ve bought a sausage at the farmers market and it was delicious. I shall never buy another sausage from the grocery store ever again.
I’ve been meaning to mention a hint from back when a relative was temporarily eating one-handed: A pizza wheel cutter can go a long ways toward making dining independently easier.
Envious of your
pile o’peas. We had an abysmal spring last year and ran out of freezer surplus a few months ago. FM just starting to gear up this year, but peas are a long way off. ![]()
LOL! You’re not kidding!
We changed our OG plans to check out the new KBBQ / hot pot place with our friends bc my PIC and I decided there was no way we’d eat $35 (AYCE) worth of food. It also seemed on the meat-heavy side, which is no bueno for our pesca buddy.
Maybe we’ll try it for a leisurely post-workout lunch (PROTEIN) some time since it’s practically next door to our gym — also AYCE, but for $10 less.
Instead, we ventured to a casual place a bit out of town, where one of my gal pals tends bar. They have a nice selection of starters, handhelds, and larger plates, and their banoffee pie is absolutely legendary around these parts.
I chose the chimichurri flank steak tacos & a side salad with ranch dressing made in house (best I’ve had anywhere). A bit skimpy for $15 on the amount of perfectly rare steak, but I know beef prices are up, and unfortunately it was also lukewarm after having sat in the window for longer than necessary… I’d peeped our order sitting in the kitchen window and let my pal know while getting an extra cup o’ ranch. ![]()
My PIC got the excellent double smashburger with bacon & fries,
our pesca the haddock sammich — no pic cuz it looked a bit anemic TBH, and his boo the brisket grilled cheese (on my recommendation), half of which she took home.
That thang is rich, dawg.
Our server was on the slow side, if super-friendly, but I went to my bartender buddy to order my martini instead of relaying it through a third party. Good choice. She also ended up bringing the other, simpler orders, exempli gratia a Miller Lite draft, a Guinness, and a Chardonnay.
Both our friends and we took home a slice of the banoffee pie, although the peanut butter pie was tempting as well. Maybe next time ![]()
A simple, gentle meal for an edgy night. Hake with stir-fried pea shoots and spinach, somewhere between sauteed and steamed.
leftover gyudon, but the BF also made us Korean pancakes and pulled some of my pork dumplings out of the freezer and pan-fried/steamed them. The pancakes were nice and chewy.
Soup for a chilly cloudy day. Irish O’ Garlic sausage, garlic, leek, carrot, celery, cabbage, potato, beef broth, bay leaf, parsley; warm buttered 8 grain bread and extra sharp cheddar.
That’s a great idea. I’ve got a smaller one that will be perfect.
Thanks!!
Tonight’s dinner was another repeat – Tuna Cakes, Baked Potato and Peas.
Oddly, both Sunshine and I really like these Tuna Cakes. We both look forward to eating them, so it doesn’t feel like a repeat – just a new favorite meal.
