Pizza Saturday. Cooked in the home oven . Flour type 0 . Base ,Ricotta mixed with grated Parmigiano. Topped with halfed cherry tomatoes and bacon. Cheers
Last night I didn’t feel like cooking so I ordered a Mediterranean pizza from a local pizza joint. The toppings included feta, black olives, red pepper and artichoke hearts. It was very good.
Four days into Lent and a plan to give up sweets didn’t work so well. I ordered a carrot cake for dessert and it was the blandest carrot cake I’ve ever had. Even the carrot cake from the grocery store is better and half the price ![]()
Stunning mountains. Where are you?
An obsession I was apparently born with. Can’t think of a time I didn’t love them. Might find more inspo for your oil here, too:
Fabulously fun Lunar New Year party at our HK buddy’s abode last night, which was festively decorated, and most guests — myself included — made sure to wear something red in celebration of the Fire Horse. Our host musta cooked his lil tushie off, given the abundance of dishes on display. There were vegetarian spring rolls with a sweet & spicy dipping sauce,
bacon-wrapped water chestnuts,
savory roast pork with gravy,
fantastic radish cakes (one of my faves last night)
noodz with shrimp & shrooms,
fabulous Singapore noodles, also with shrimp,
spicy pickled cukes — another favorite,
and last, but certainly not least, scrumptious shrimp with sesame oil, ginger, cilantro
I damn near ate my weight in food & didn’t even dance it all off, as I’m still a bit careful around crowds with my bum shoulder.
A bartender whom our hosts have hired for previous events provided two themed cocktails: a lychee “martini” she claimed wasn’t sweet at all (oh, but it was… very much so!), and the Fire Horse, a Manhattan/Negroni-like concoction heavy on the boozes, and thankfully not too sweet.
A great time was had by all, and we were home just after midnight ![]()
I’m currently looking at the pretty snow blanketing our quiet street. Plans to see a fellow singer’s late afternoon show will depend on how much plowing is done.
Thank you for the background and the recipes. My H fishes and we always have lots fish to use. It sounds like these recipes can be adjusted to work with fish as well.
Inland Empire, CA
Everything looks scrumptious and I know I would love the Fire Horse.
After some MLS game we need some late night dinner - Montero Taco Truck. Very good tacos with homemade tortillas and a massive, fully loaded hotdog.
Taco plate 1 - asada, chorizo, pollo
Taco plate 2 - lengua, carbeza, carnitas, papas con chorizo
Hotdog Montero - bacon wrapped sausage, asada, queso, pico de gallo, avocado, cream

Mrs. P made a delicious spicy ‘blizzard’ pasta using Al Dente brand garlic/herb pappardelle with Cajun dry rubbed shrimp, smoky Andouille sausage, mini peppers, garlic, sautéed red onion, and winter parsley, in a sauce consisting of chicken stock, heavy cream, spicy chili crisp, olive oil, and 1 1/2 cups of parmigiana reggiano cheese. She just made this up
It went great with an excellent cabernet.
I made rainbow bowls with red cabbage, cukes, mini peppers, sauteed Yu Choi, kimchi, radishes, and seared shrimp over a blend of cauliflower rice, quinoa, and edamame. Dressed with a lemony miso vinaigrette and black sesame seeds. Pretty tasty!

Hoping the winds and heavy, wet snow don’t take out my local power lines.
Went with an old comfort food: Mandarin Orange Chicken, a new product from Wegmans. Although the price can’t even begin to compare to TJs version, the sauce amount is WAY more than TJs gives you, and flavor still good.. Sauce was augmented with some blood orange juice (another Wegmans purchase), hoisin sauce, and freshly grated ginger.
Basmati rice and peas as the sides, topped with some rough-chopped cashews (because I can), along with several glasses of a nice buttery white wine.
Stay safe, all who are in the path of the nor’easter!
Sounds like Mrs. P and I share a similar cooking style ![]()
A lazy Sunday spent mostly watching our assclown cats alternate between the zoomies & wrassling each other. Never a boring minute with these fellas ![]()
After our afternoon cuppa we made our way to the brewery where my friend was performing. She’s such a talented singer/songwriter, so it was a shame that the crowd was fairly sparse. I blame the stupid weather. We caught most of the first & all of the second set before heading back home through the winter wonderland, where a big ole pot of Tuscan soup was waiting for us. I’d added more Tuscan kale & another can of beans (for our health) before we left and set the burner to low. I also added another glug of heavy cream we picked up from the local dairy on our way home, and a healthy shake of hot paprika, since it’s Ssssssspicy Sssssssunday ![]()
Hit all the spots & then some.
Too lazy to make a salad tonight. ¡Mañana!
I am so happy they joined your household. ![]()
Definitely. I also have made it with scallops, and mixed seafood.
Yes! The spicier the better ![]()
