And I can’t deal with globs of wobbly, unrendered fat & require crispiness.
Different strokes.

those chips look homemade - yum!
They are. That way I don’t have a big bag tempting me to make a pig of myself.
Last night’s dinner plan was thwarted because of a burst water main down the block, so no water for around 8 hours ment no washing of lettuce. I had to pivot to plan B, which was bacon and scrambled eggs with feta and toast. Ah, the joys of winter

Tonight I had leftover Tagliatelle alla Bolognese(delicious, no photo)from lunch with my niece.
I made chicken-mushroom soup with homemade stock and TJ’s blend of red rice, brown rice, and black barley. Hit the spot.
Thanks, mostly just followed this recipe, but in my experience it takes quite a bit longer than the 3 hours on high in the recipe, may be due to my slow cooker:
Forgot to add I do crisp it up a bit sometimes in a frying pan when heating it up, doesn’t even need oil!
That sounds like quite a short cook time to me, even as an owner of one of the older, hotter crock pots.
Wife’s gone so it’s my duty to eat as much meat as possible. This was 1.5 pounds of stuff left over from the meatzapaloooza of 1/30 mentioned above. Plus (not shown) about 4 oz leftover Honey Baked Ham.
I also heated about 6 oz of very light sauerkraut (I only fermented 4 days to then gift the ferment to lupini beans) and added that light kraut atop the meat.
Nice combo.
Oh, crap. I’m referencing a “Meatzapalooza” that I forgot to actually mention/show above.
Edit - this was 4 steaks all close to 3 pounds trimmed. I gave the other 3 steaks to my son in law because his parents were visiting that weekend, too. So it worked out well.
Leftover spinach and bacon quiche from the freezer (reheated). The last of the marinated bean salad. Greens in vinaigrette.
NYT chicken and carrots with yogurt sauce. Little gem, red onion, tomato, avocado, blue cheese salad, ranch dressing. This was delicious.
Made a run home to pick up some food since there is a small fridge in my suite. Half an Asian slaw kit with krab, avocado, and cucumber.
Nice to have a reason for a deep(er) house cleaning after weeks of being pretty much hermits — even more so when it’s such a joyous one as having 8 of my gal pals over for a belated double bday celebration
It was also the first time so many of us got to hang out together in forevah & catch up ![]()
One of the bday girls insisted she make lobster mac for us all bc she had an abundance of lobster in her freezer that she didn’t use up over the holidays, and who am I to say no to that? It was abundant with lobster meat, and the panko topping was wonderfully buttery and kronchy.
She also brought Caprese skewers with flavorful tomatoes for starters,
and a lovely tiramisu for dessert. We provided a bunch of wine and various snacky items like new to me Takis Fuego (never again
), tator chips, and Sichuan peanuts.
The day (kind of) got away from me, so I had to do a “throw together” dinner. Brats, Baked Potato and Peas.
I would just get the fingers messy, as with a low country boil.
That all looks lovely.
Stovetop cast-iron grill as a stand-in?
I neglected to post these:
Monday, a freshly baked sausage lasagna from the freezer with salad. That you to my past self for putting this together! ![]()
Tuesday we had chicken with the mole sauce and rice my friend dropped off and a big green salad.
Chicken chicken chicken. Tonight will be a change of pace.
