What's for Dinner #125 - the Fresh Start Edition - January 2026

And fishy!

hubba hubba, let me at it!

There are fishy and there are ’ Yummy Fishy '!! :face_savoring_food: :ok_hand:

Everybody was at the stores today, for we may not be able to set foot into a supermarket for possibly up to THIRTY-SIX HOURS! Oh, no!!!

We grabbed what we needed for our w/end dinner plans, which wasn’t a lot: more Persian cukes & Sinatra for tonight, heavy cream & milk from the local dairy for my boo’s Sunday Snow Day “project”, i.e. his fantabulous pistachio ice cream, parsley for the pappppardellllle & arugula for that same night, and an orange pepper & snow peas for Monday night’s Thai shrimp curry.

Dinner was an all-time favorite @casa lingua: TCC & BBC & SCS, aka Trini-Chinese chicken (BISO thighs), baby bok choy, and smacked cucumber salad. Funny, cuz my PIC declared once again yesterday just how sick & tired he is of “Asian” food. Well….. not if I have my say

Sorry 'bout the toddler-style plate — I still need him to cut my food for me |

Stay warm everyone & please consider making an extra donation to your local emergency shelters / crisis housing these days (if you haven’t already) :black_heart:

Tonight’s dinner was a cabbage potato soup with enough leftover for the next few days.

Yep. And from what I hear, many of our power lines are still the temporaries that they put up right after the hurricane. So they are more vulnerable than otherwise. :grimacing:

We are a little nervous about falling limbs on our roof, but at least it’s metal. :crossed_fingers:t2:

Best of luck to you and yours! To all of us, really.

I know you must understand that some of those people have mouths to feed, young and/or old so facing a historic snow storm might be daunting proposition for those folks. And then you stated that we should support our local shelters. Maybe those are the very people you disparaged? Everyone is understandably concerned. I ran into a couple of concerned neighbors in my neighborhood while I went to TJ’s for non-essential supplies. They were going for essentials for their families.

There is a rivalry between Trinidad and Guyana. As far as I understand, from friends raised on other islands in the West Indies, Trinidad and Guyana are known for making the best roti, and excellent Black Cake and curries.

Went to the theater this afternoon to see Marty Supreme. Great flick! Ate too much popcorn. Dinner was a couple of tacos.

Thoughts and good kharma go out to those prepping for stormy weather!

We enjoyed another sensational dinner at That Supper Club pop up dinner, including Hamachi crudo; short rib pasta; A5 wagyu and truffles over toast; caviar butter on toast; scallops; artichoke and sunchoke risotto; duck confit pasta; 40 day dry aged filet mignon; savory zeppoli; fantastic oysters; lemon olive oil cake for dessert. It all went great with an excellent cabernet and Malbec. The menu is attached for more details.

My oldest daughter was an FPL engineer for about 4 years before her family moved back here. She had a love/hate relationship with the 16 hour a day hurricane duty.

You deleted your post before I could see it but I do apologize for the tone of my post. It was written under duress (I’m trying to make sure my elderly parents aren’t snowbound alone for an extended period of time).

Thank you for the education. Trinidad is on Mr Bean’s bucket list of place to visit, solely to be able to Doubles from a different for every meal.

Thank you.

All of our posts are made in one mood or another, of course. Mine tends to err on making light of a situation by using humor or hyperbole, a coping strategy I developed in early childhood — but that’s obviously not everyone’s cuppa.

I hope your parents will be well-fed, safe & warm throughout the course of this storm and beyond :black_heart:
