I haven’t cooked in a while. This is mostly reheating, but it was still pretty good. Rice, beans, salsa, fried egg. Homegrown cuke, tomato, cilantro.

I’m too clueless and tired to look up that term and wade through recipes. Could you direct me to an easy recipe that you like/riff off? Spring Onion is decidedly now a full-time beef/pork/chicken (to a lesser extent, except katsu)-eater (when he’s not craving sushi), which is hard for me, his pescatarian mom who gets stressed out just thinking about cooking beef/pork/chicken. :expressionless_face: Yesterday, he devoured some Thai-style pork skewers at a Thai outdoor market that we ran into in Harvard Square, so I’m fairly certain he would like these. Or anything else that you make.

TY!

We’ve had skunks aka ‘stunks’ lay over during the daylight hours, on occasion. They crack me up with their deep sleeps and open mouths.

Sure! I used a cut like this: Boneless Country-Style Pork Ribs - price per lb - Good & Gather™ : Target https://share.google/xCIiAoWEZ1JFs9aph

Cut each piece into four chunks and seasoned with Penzey’s Chicago steak seasoning, TJ’s everything seasoning, olive oil, salt and pepper.

Threaded those onto soaked wooden skewers alternating with slices of sweet onion. Grilled to about medium/ medium well. A few minutes on each side under the broiler would work as well. DH tore some fresh sage over before they cooked.

And then the veg. I just cut chunky and skewered, not too tightly together, and sprayed with olive oil and sprinkled with Badia adobo and pepper. Grill till charred and tender.

Hope that helps! Let me know in case of any questions.

With cheese being on sale last week, Sunshine requested a pizza. I had some sliced peppers in the freezer which went perfectly with some sliced onions. I made the pizza dough, yesterday – so it had its time in the fridge.

…and some dried oregano.

But I think you were asking about the pork, mainly.

On Saturday I got a nice whole dorade (small fish, also called porgie I think) , but I didn’t feel like cooking yesterday. I started to warm up some freezer pastitsio. But the oven didn’t heat up. It stopped at around 230F. I heated the pastitsio in the microwave, and tossed the dorade into the freezer, until I could get the stove fixed.

Today, I forgot about the faulty oven. I thawed out and prepped the dorade, and watched as the oven never went over 230F. So, the fish went into the frying pan, and browned nicely.

Served with brown rice and English pea pilaf, leftover brown mushrooms, and Greek salad. The orange strips in back are some “chicken of the woods” mushrooms, discussed somewhere here. They really were like chicken! But dried out white meat chicken. Most mushrooms soften up in cooking, but not these.

I was worried that there was something wrong with it, but if I got too close it would scurry off and come back when I left. I live beside a pretty big park in the middle of a big city, lots of various critters roaming around looking for shelter and food. Not much I can do about them encroaching on my property, so I just let them be. Usually good for a chuckle though

Saucy! And what an abundance of shrimp

What did you think of the recipe? It’s in my NYT recipe box along with approx. 1,000,000 other chicken recipes

We met up with a few friends to check out the newly opened Iraqi restaurant in town.
It’s a family-run business, and we had a bit of a wait, just like the other handful of customers who were there.

Peeps wanted me to order for the table, so I got an order of the dolma, the baba ganoush, and the falafel to start us off. The falafel were some of the best I’ve ever had — easily on par with the stuff we get in Berlin at our favorite falafel purveyors: freshly fried, a brilliant green inside, and perfectly seasoned. I’d go back for the falafel alone!

The baba ganoush was smoky-deliciousness on a plate and came with a house-baked, plate-sized sesame flatbread. Excellent.

The dolma were warm & meatless, but I much prefer my PIC’s

As for our mains, we split the eggplant pide, the lamb shank, and the lamb shish kebab. The eggplant pide was very flavorful, the dough golden brown — crispy and with a nice chew, and the eggplant abundant.

The lamb shank practically fell of the bone, also very nicely seasoned & def different than other ME lamb preps we’ve had, but I couldn’t put my finger on the spice/herb combo.

The least impressive dish was the lamb shish kebab — again, I’m spoiled being married to a certified lamb kebab professional. It was unfortunately overcooked & most of the chunks rather chewy — I guess I lucked out and got a fairly tender piece. I did like the seasoning. The fries that came with both lamb dishes were cold, but each had an interesting okra stew on the side. The rice was very good, another highlight for sure.

My PIC wasn’t impressed with the food overall, but he’s a lamb snob :woman_shrugging:

Afterwards, we went to see our friend and talented singer/songwriter at a venue nearby for a rare Monday show. I didn’t know it was a triple feature with her set starting off the evening, followed by two not very talented singer/songwriters.

Either way, a nice start to the week: good friends, good food, good- music.
