Ah, gotcha. Traveling will be the biggest challenge for me while I’m on the OZ, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.
that’s ok, we loved those. i’m probably going by tomorrow.
Even the TV commercials state (in Not so small print) that people who stop taking the drug altogether will most likely gain the weight back. At least BP is semi honest about it in case of future lawsuits.
Soooo…the reason I took today off - to get the furnace cleaned - didn’t happen. Got a call at about 2:30 saying the tech assigned was stuck at a “no heat” job with no ETA on completion there or arrival at my home. They wanted to reschedule for another weekday. Yeah, that’s a nope for me, Dawg. Told them Saturdays only. If they couldn’t do it, I’d go somewhere else. Got a call back for Saturday, Nov. 8th between 10 & noon. ![]()
So I had a quiet day at home. Dinner was planned last night: turkey tenderloin marinated for 5 hours in Target honey-mustard dressing, which was augmented with a spoon of additional honey and some safflower oil, white wine, lemon juice, minced fresh rosemary and parsley, garlic powder, and s/p. Baked at 350° until proper temp on digital thermometer. Marinade heated on stovetop for spooning.
Sides were toasted Israeli couscous cooked in BTB chicken stock and lemon juice with some Penzeys dried shallots and ground pepper, and steamed broccoli.
There was wine.
Been on a burger kick lately. Out of Montreal steak seasoning so used this stuff he picked up somewhere. About the same. Doctored up beef franks and beans. The mere mention of jalapeño poppers on the Thanksgiving 2025 thread reminded me that I hadn’t made them in awhile. Solid meal and one we both agree on.
That burger! ![]()

Just an observation here. I am not a diabetic, nor was I seriously overweight when I was started on Ozempic for the treatment of heart failure (HFpEF for those medically inclined). I did however weigh more than I should have at around 5’10"/200lbs. I am now at 155lbs, after being on Ozempic for a year. Due to some recent published studies, Tirzepatide seems to be better than Semaglutide (Ozempic) for the treatment of heart failure, and was recently switched from Ozempic to Mounjaro (Terzepatide). To switch from one to the other, I had to start at the beginning again with the Mounjaro.
These are my observations…Ozempic just takes away your appetite, I just didn’t want to eat, and had early satiety…eat a little and you’re full. That’s how the weight comes off, the bottom line is that you don’t want to eat as much, and you’re full so much quicker. Being OFF the Ozempic and now starting at the beginning dosage of Mounjaro, I do notice a return in my appetite and I can eat much more than I was able to on Ozempic. On a side note…Ozempic killed any desire for alcohol, and stopping the Ozempic, that desire has NOT returned. The side effects I had with Ozempic were a PITA…it gave me terrible GERD/reflux esophagitis and constipation as side effects. They were largely but not totally controlled with medication and dietary modification…I try to eat a shit ton of fresh and dried fruit to keep my colon happy.
I wish I didn’t have to take it, but my heart failure is improved on my current medical regimen, and it’s nice to have lost excess weight. The severity of side effects seem to be dosage related, so I hope the Mounjaro/Terzepatide side effects are at least similar AND that I won’t have to be on a max dosage to maintain it’s clinical benefit.
I have no idea what came over me but I cooked tonight instead of making snacky dinner. Chicken thigh with Dijon mushroom cream sauce - I got the skin so crispy I just kept the sauce underneath - with jasmine rice and salad.
Congratulations on the weight loss!!
I am surprised they switched you to Mounjaro already for heart-related indications. I thought it isn’t approved yet (data so far looks good but safety data isn’t complete (as far as I can see in the literature).
Fall is here and Happy Halloween! An easy cook tonight while we await the horde of no-shows. I think we’ve had a total of 3 trick-or-treaters since we moved here 8 years ago. No worries – more (real) chocolate for us! WFD was all from the fridge and freezer: bangers and mash, pork-and-onion gravy, carrots and baby peas from the garden.
I started the November thread here:
I love autumn.
Dinner was seared and roasted pork tenderloin with a maple syrup, brown sugar, mustard, bourbon sauce. Roasted carrots, shallots, garlic and butter. Savoy & red cabbage, kale, celery, apple slaw, Oregon hazelnuts, creamy curry dressing. There was a Manhattan.
Happy Halloween! Sometimes I’m an accidental vegan. I love this dish! https://heartbeetkitchen.com/roasted-red-kuri-squash-recipe/#recipe

And those jalapeño poppers!!! ![]()
Our final dinner in Philly was at one of our favorite places, Vernick Food & Drink, where we’ve been going since they opened 13 years ago.
I had a dry AF Ford’s martini, my PIC their excellent Manhattan. The greeting from the kitchen was a butternut squash soup with thyme oil and a gougères. Their soups are always wonderful, even those I least prefer — i.e. winter squash or carrot.
We shared a Vernick classic & must-order every time we’re there: the blue crab toast with lemon aioli and tarragon — it’s been on the menu from the beginning, and it’s absolutely amazeballz.
I’ve made versions of it at home, but I rarely achieve the nice char on their fabulous grilled sourdough.
We also shared the hiramasa with carrot and brown butter: the fish was a buttery delight, and the carrot & brown butter worked strangely well.
Next was maitake with leek escabeche, tarragon & orange, also very good.
For our main we split the Thai-spiced lamb chops with tomato shiitake chutney. The Thai flavors were there, the ‘spice’ not so much. The chops were a perfect med-rare, very meaty and juicy, thanks to a decent amount of fat, and the tomato shiitake chutney was wonderful.
“Dessert” was a Night Night, Josephine (a digestif I’ve enjoyed before with banana liqueur & other stuff I forget now) for me, and a wonderfully viscous Meletti for my PIC.
Soon we’re off to food-shop, sausage-retrieve, and drive home to our kitties! ![]()
