Soup and sandwich. Sausage & bean soup from the freezer, I added some canned tomatoes and more spinach, a splash of Maggi. Sharp cheddar and robusto gouda grilled cheese on sourdough.
Toasted and lightly buttered sourdough English muffin topped with a very spicy and delicious pimento cheese.. Fritos and a pickle. Which took a back seat.
I give up. Had enough of those uploading problems.
I did! Its quite simple with a press and a cut up bread bag.
You know what’s always good? Rice & beans. And guac and salsa and cheese and sour cream. I was a little nervous about the avocado, ‘cause it was only $1 (in NYC this is cheap). But it was fine!
SALAD. Ala the BF. Nice garlicky vinaigrette over many things that needed to be eaten.
Happy Friday!
in SF that is cheap, too.
I believe it. I think SF is the only city in the U.S. with more expensive real estate than Manhattan.
Did you follow the recipe in this less sweet version?
Yum!
Like your guests. I had bucky and sugar who were here every day for 5 weeks. They ate every crab apple from the tree . Meanwhile taking naps beneath the deck.
We hosted poker last night for a fairly small table & ordered Sichuan food. It was good, tho I wish the Chongqing chicken had been hotter. Everyone was hungry, so we didn’t bother throwing it in the air-fryer. Was inhaled anyway.
We also got garlic eggplant,
cumin beef,
braised bok choy with shiitake,
Sichuan fish,
and waterfall beef (the lone Northern Thai dish).
I lost TPSTOM, which was a fitting ending to a shitty day.
Yes - the gochujang made it sweeter last time, so using the gochugaru instead helped - EXCEPT he used Korean rice syrup (ssal-jocheong) instead of sugar - he said about 1/2 a tsp. The syrup isn’t as sweet as sugar.
Trying out a new recipe tonight. Spanish garlic shrimp. Olive oil, garlic, paprika, red chili flakes, lemon juice, sherry, s&p.
I did cut back on the garlic a little bit. Tossed with lightly buttered angel hair pasta. Seriously good. Definite repeat.
Pan-fried halibut. Roasted carrots. Salt-and-pepper potato gratin. Casino butter uber alles (looks a bit beige until the butter melted into a delicious sauce).
The hali we caught ourselves last summer in Ucluelet, BC. Carrots, spuds, peppers, and scallions from the garden.
Friends of ours throw a father/son bday bash in their backyard every year, and most of the previous years I had a gig & missed it…. but not today, seitan!
Lots of folks we know, some new peeps, plenty of libations, and food from a local Indian place with the usual suspects: samosas,
tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala,
baingan bharta,
saag paneer,
kadahi vegetable
naan, onion kulcha, dipping sauces, etc. etc.
We did not leave hungry.
Festivities started early, and we were home by 8:30pm. I’ve not been feeling terribly social as of late, so I’m looking forward to a martini & a movie, and a few nights home alone with my boo.
Woke to a beautiful sunrise.
Then had a GREAT day at the Fryeburg Fair today. Saw horses, cows, humongous steer, goats, sheep, piggies. Walked the fairway, saw tons of kids’ rides, lots of games. Wasn’t crowded the first 3 hours, but come noontime, the fairway was mobbed! Didn’t partake of fair food. But did share fish and chips with my sister.
Then up to Sunday River for a chairlift ride up North Peak. Colors were very muted. Weather hasn’t been good enough to bring out the hoped for New England brilliant leaf peeping colors.
Pork and green bean stir-fry on Basmati rice for dinner.
I had wine.
