What's For Dinner #121 - the Daylight Slips Away Edition - September 2025

Digga, you can find the country style ribs on sale at MB all the time. BJs has them, and I know Hannaford and Wegmans does as well. Varying prices.

do you also make Birne, Bohnen + Speck ? Seems like a similar type of dish.

Think pork loin strips with maybe a tiny bit of marbling and some dark meat at one end (I think this has something to do with the “blade”). Basically the boneless, skinless chicken breast of pork. Cooks and can dry out quickly.

Yes, sometimes

That’ll work, I only do a small amount, so wrapping in wax paper works for me.

And the Classic Jamaican Rice and Peas (Peas and Rice) though many use Kidney Beans.

Crispy roasted chicken thigh, mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy. I’d love to be able to tell you there was also a green salad.

i went to Chinatown this afternoon to stock up on my Asian pantry items and all the fixin’s to nake a chow mein dinner. I realized when I got home I have only two serings of chow mein noodles left and that was the one thing that wasn’t on the list :upside_down_face: Oh well next time. Tonight’s dinner started with egg rolls then I moved on to choy sum, mushrooms and bbq’d pork ribs with chow mein noodles under all that food.

Sketti and sawce with grated Parm-Reg and some tiny basil leaves off a stem that had been snipped over the weekend and not used, kept in a small glass of water on my counter.

Eaten while stretching over the Slugabug at my feet.

I took a friend to a medical appointment about 40 min out of town around mid-day, after having successfully trimmed the entire PECK of green beans I got at the FM yesterday (and nicked my wrist doing it when my Global slipped and fell — I guess it won’t need sharpening for a while ).

Got to hang out in a PA town that could easily be the setting for the next Brad Ingelsby show & found a cute café for lunch.

Once again, I had no idea what to have/make for dinner & certainly didn’t feel like a big production. We ended up thawing the last 4 whole wings from a local farm we got back in 1912 or some such :grimacing:, frying them up in the air-fryer naked (the wings, silly!), then tossed with extra hot buffalo sauce & melted butter.

I made a BLT-ish salad on the side — iceberg, umami bomb tomatoes, half a zuke & half a yellow pepper that needed used, bacon, mayo scallion dressing.

We were going to share my leftover half of the brisket grilled cheese I brought back home, but we were full.

Cheap, low-key, and tasty.

Herb Frittata - “classical” frittata with plenty of herbs (parsley, chives and chervil) and nutmeg. Topped with a mixture of diced red bell pepper, onion, black olives in olive oil and white wine vinegar

Why let a green salad get in the way of the main event? A person needs to have priorities. Yum.

That looks very tasty and a winner for a winter’s dinner. Any particular Dad recipe? Can you share? Thank you!
