I made a chicken pot pie with the last of a rotisserie chicken I grabbed yesterday for chicken salad sandwiches. Quick bagged salad with extra parm and cuke and yellow pepper from this weeks CSA. A bottle of delicious Okanagan Rose. And the last of the Nanaimo bar cheesecake for dessert after we take our four legged child to the park for some fetch.
Cheers to a new week, y’all!
That pie looks amazing! I can both smell it and taste it. Good job!
Mrs. P enjoyed the Cubano sandwich so much last week, that we had to order it again. She thought it was one of the best Cuban sandwiches she has had in NJ. This time I ordered their fried chicken sandwich which must have contained about 4 or 5 crispy panko crusted cutlets that were tossed in agave, sriracha, and sea salt. It was so big I couldn’t even eat it as a sandwich. I had to eat it with a knife and fork. We also had a bacon cheeseburger and a BBQ beef brisket empanada. It all went great with an excellent red blend.
Thank you! It was great.
We are getting the first CSA corn on Tuesday. I’m overwhelmed that corn season is here already!
Quick and easy scrounge before a date night out – I had an arugula salad with raspberry balsamic vinegar and oo, heirloom tomato, crispy tempeh, and pumpkin seeds. Surprisingly good for what it was. I do like tempeh.
That seems very early to me!
I wasn’t very hungry, had leftover tuna bean salad for lunch. After much procrastinating I remembered I had buratta that needed to be used. A salad sounded good. Little gem, red cabbage, green onion, cucumber, tomatoes, buratta, croutons, basil. A syrupy balsamic & oo dressing with a smidge of mustard and honey. Perfect.
Same.
They made a post about how they got some new equipment that allowed them to plant earlier , but I dunno. Mostly what I suspect is the development of varieties that can be planted earlier in order to extend a profitable crop. Very recently a very-early variety peach was introduced here and they are just terrible.
We took the happy couple to the former east yesterday to show them some wall art & a different vibe, then took a short stroll through the Turkish part of our nabe, where another gelato was in order.
(gorgonzola / fig & mango sorbet)
Jetlag hit them hard and suddenly, so we did not make it to the Turkish place that sells those delicious midye. Perhaps my PIC and I can grab some today for a late lunch
Our final days here continue to be busy meeting up with several friends we’ve not seen in well over a decade, and yesterday we got to hang with our Argentinian buds at a brew pub in a park near us. The happy couple ventured out on their own for dinner at a vegan place before joining us for a couple of drinks. We’ll see them again later today when they’ll help us move our shit to the hotel up the road, and we’ll have dinner together before they head to London tomorrow.
The food selection at the brew pub was pretty meager: pickles
brats,
Pablo, ever the comedian
fries,
potato salad
and fancy fries. My PIC and I shared the fancy fries loaded with pulled pork, pickled onions & surprisingly kicky jalapeños.
The pub closed at 10pm and we had our friends over to finish up the wine in our fridge and assorted snacklets like peanuts & chips & the last of the Sicilian tomatoes I made up with a lil Greek olive oil, s&p and Greek oregano. They sucked those down with gusto. Who doesn’t love a nice refreshing salad?
It was absolutely wonderful catching up with them, and we meet up again tomorrow & possibly Wednesday for our final meal — those lucky b’stards have another 3 weeks in Berlin before flying back home out of Athens!
Year after year I’m so impressed by how you managed to grow so much of the produce that you eat in your household. I try, but my thumb is a bit less green than yours. I hope that changes if I ever retire and have a few more hours in my day to devote to hobbies like gardening
Our summaries of the restaurant visits might start to sound boring as we always seem to be very happy with all the dinners but so far the consistent high quality across all restaurants is quite impressive. Last night at Mito in Porto https://mitorestaurante.pt/ was no different and hits kind of a sweet spot of restaurants we also back in the US prefer and which one might describe as Contemporary/New Portuguese.

Such a nice post - thank you! For us it’s pretty much morphed from a hobby in to a way of life. It’s a lot of work, but the rewards are there (and this is the best time of year). And yes, it helps to be retired and have the time to commit to it.
I really like tempeh! It’s starting to make its way into more menus around here.
Tonight I made Instant Pot Greek chicken bowls from Kalyn’s Kitchen. I just made the chicken and served the salsa ingredients as toppings a la carte. I used brown rice rather than cauliflower and made a tahini-lemon dressing and added cooked beets and vinaigrette-dressed garden kale. Onions were pickled. A few strips of warmed naan for those who wanted.
Stunning
