I’m on so many meds right now after my heart attack that I’m hoping it isn’t more meds. BUT the coupon for “new shoes” might help. You’re the 2nd person who said something about Hokas. Damn, those soles are thick. They remind me a bit of the 1970s Earth Shoes where they had a negative heel, causing the ball of the foot to be slightly higher, so your foot “rocked forward” as you walked.
We’ll see what the podiatrist says, but thanks on the info re: cherry juice/turmeric to help stop inflammation and pain.
I haven’t worn heels in years, and if they are, they’re a very very small wedge heel. I’m hoping an orthotic insert will help.
They’ve made a HUGE difference for me. They were specifically made for me at a foot clinic here in Berlin, and I’ve had them for years. They also fit into most of my shoes
I finally bought Hokas, they do rock some. I wanted last year’s Bondi 8 because it has a loop top of heel to help you pull on. I found a cheaper source online, got a pair light grey. Then I ordered a pair of black on black for a friend and now wish I’d gotten same for myself, less obvious.
I used to only wear New Balance, grey, men’s.
I have a pair of Hoka Gaviota 5s that I purchased in September. Their regular width seems closer to a wide width. I found I was getting a bit of ankle pain after really long walks (8 miles or longer) that I didn’t have if I wore ASICs sneakers, or Birkenstock boots or sandals. I had my right ankle X-rayed in March because of ongoing intermittent pain for a few months, without an injury that I could recall. Now I wonder if the Hoka fit wasn’t suiting me and contributing.
Of course some brands and models of running shoes work better for some people than others.
I switched back to buying ASICs GT 2000s after my one pair of Hokas. The Hokas have become a pair of gardening shoes now.
I have orthotics too for fallen arches in my feet and they are very comfortable. Mine are also custom made and fit in most shoes. I usually wear Finn Comfort shoes mostly because they last forever and I walk everywhere so I really need durable shoes and my orthotics will fit in all of them. There are less expensive shoes that are also very good like Clarks although I think @LindaWhit has gotten a few recommendations already.
I HAVE to have that loop! Both of my New Balances sneakies have them. So I’ll make sure (if I’m supposed to buy new shoes) that they have the loop. And yeah, dark gray NBs are the ones I have - 2 pair. But they are women’s shoes. LOL
I’ve had Clark shoes before and yes - very comfortable! Will add Finn Comfort to the list.
Looks like:
Orthotic inserts for my current shoes
Hokas (suggested here and elsewhere)
Finn Comfort (suggested here)
Brooks (suggested elsewhere)
Ortho-Feet (online search)
Kuru (online search)
And also " tart cherry juice with turmeric…either a liquid concentrate or a tablet".
Thanks, everyone! The HO Community comes through again!
I also “discovered” Skechers this summer (I already had a pair of beach sandals), and those have pretty solid support & are comfy as all get out. I now own a pair of black Skechers sneaks & one pair of sandals, with another one being delivered tomorrow
Still, my feet are bound to get worse, but then what doesn’t with age?
Another day of precious few left wasted on being sick & useless. The OG plan was to scoot to several branches of an accessory chain to stock up on a hair clip I love: it’s the easiest way for me to put my hair up — besides the same ole same ole ponytail — plus it doesn’t require any styling talent or dexterity, both of which I severely lack. However, it is also made of plastic & breaks easily, and I’d run out of the ones I bought last year. I made it to exactly one branch (they only had one of the hair clips) after battling ridic traffic and fatigue Spent the rest of the afternoon on the couch reading.
My PIC suggested we go out for some spicy food, and a Thai near us that we used to visit at least a few times during our sabbatical 19 years ago seemed like the ticket. Our favorite Thai place in the northeast was just too far of a ride for Ms. Decrepit here
I had the tom kha gai and ordered it Thai spicy,
my PIC got the laab ped & som tam, also Thai spicy.
The laab ped was excellent. While the food didn’t clear out my sinuses, the tom kha was very flavorful and rich, and the other dishes made both of our heads water from various orifices. Mission accomplished, I guess.
I don’t have loops on my New Balance, don’t need but I don’t understand why Hokas aren’t adding the loop on new models.
Skechers Men’s Gowalk Flex - Athletic Slip-on Casual Walking Shoes with Air Cooled Foam Sneakers, Navy/Blue, 11 : Amazon.ca: Clothing, Shoes & Accessories
I’ve been wearing this style for a few years now, got two pairs on sale. Comfy shoe for a slip-on, but not much ankle support without tie up laces. Only used for casual walking and airport security
