Memorial Day pizza last night was clam and garlic scapes and pepperoni jalapeño
NYT olive oil-roasted haddock (halibut too pricy and I was cooking for a crowd which turned into just me and B) with grape tomatoes/garlic/lotsa lemon/touch of honey. Couldn’t be bothered to wash and add parsley. Buttermilk mashed potatoes because I bought a quart for the NYT jalapeño ranch dressing and I still have a ton left.
Extreme close-up of B’s half-eaten plate.
Today in “I have no food,” except upon reflection you do: tuna melt biscuits, lentil soup with mint and cilantro from the balcony.
They both sound great but this is calling to me.
I made broiled shrimp marinated in yogurt, zhug, and chaat masala, dal of black eyed peas, quinoa-rice blend (with some carrots that needed using), broiled zucchini, and cucumber-mint raita.
Tasty and fairly easy; I managed this after a 3-hour volunteer gig!
Char siu fried rice, with some added bay shrimp and veggies gleaned from the garden: broccoli, peas, and asparagus.
Roast duck
Jeweled rice
Blackcurrant variation on Cumberland sauce based on this recipe
Roasted rhubarb condiment
Salad with homegrown lettuce and herbs
From the freezer, stuffed poblano pepper with a little pool of red enchilada sauce and the famous Velveeta queso sauce. Mexi cauli rice and fresh corn salad, red onion, tomatoes, avocado, cilantro, Fresno chile ranch. (The NYT recipe)
The whole dorade at the fishmonger caught my eye. So, roasted dorade (also called bream) stuffed with rice, artichokes, roasted red pepper, and bits of shrimp. From the oven:
And on the plate:
I’m flying solo tonight, so I heated up some leftovers. I had a single serving of Lentil Pasta Bake in the freezer, so that became my dinner. It looks kind of boring (and beige), but tastes good.
Sunshine went to a “Girl’s Night” dinner party. She was telling the woman hosting this dinner about my “Lemon Cake” experiment (from last week), so I made a duplicate cake. Sunshine really liked it – I hope the rest of the ladies at the party enjoy it, as much.
i picked up a pack of Trader Joe’s Squiggly Knife-Cut Noodles (that someone here recommended to me!) with soy & sesame sauce (as opposed to, for some reason, the spicy garlic sesame sauce) and tried them out tonight. The BF had had a pack himself and told me the sauce was lacking, so I added some scallion garlic oil i brought from Japan (delightful), added his thinly-cut carrots, scallions, a jammy egg, crushed TJs nori, and a squiggle of wasabi Kewpie. OH - and he fried up a chicken thigh skin and chopped it up for me! I’d definitely buy the noodz again but will try the spicy ones next time.
Lefotovers for bfast.
For his own dinner, he took the Moroccan sauce he made last night and braised chicken thighs in it, and had a basic repeat of last night’s meal, but much better because the chicken was super tender.
dang. I’ve been craving steak…
both those pies look luscious!
Homemade crab cakes broiled in the air-fryer.
Sides: macaroni and cheese, and sauteed spinach.
Martini.
Your plates always look so appetizing!
Your food always looks so good. It would be even better if you told us what it was!
