What's For Dinner #118 - the Pollen Is Covering Everything! Edition - May 2025

Oh my. It truly is a small world. What are superb horse rides those must have been. That is where I learned about wines. Not knowledgeable at all, but do know what I like.

I made a loose riff on Smitten Kitchen’s ziti chickpeas using turkey Italian sausage, chickpeas, lentils, and some cubed high-protein tofu for heft. I also added dollops of ricotta and reduced the cheese overall. Served with Calabrian chilies in oil.

Brie and ham or prosciutto (on baguette) are a favorite of mine.

The last of the birthday artichokes, served chilled with paprika garlic lemon aioli. Half a RB sandwich with the rest of the aioli and RB and lots of Vidalia onion. Beefeater and Fever Tree. Good ending to a hectic week.

Lemon-pepper sautéed Argentinian red shrimp with a lemon-white wine “sauce” on leftover rice pilaf with steamed asparagus alongside.

Ohhh…there WAS wine!

Looks awesome. I’ll make this pronto sans turkey sausage (I’ll probably double up on beans cuz that’s how we/I roll).

ATK’s red beans and rice, with Uli’s Andouille sausage - and bacon. No veg on the side, so I doubled down on the celery, peppers, and onions. The dish also gave me a chance to use a pinch of my new-to-me datil peppers.

We’re about packed up & ready to go. Early eve HH martinis and niblets with friends,

then I threw together a fridge clean-out salad — one lonely head of romaine, 1/3 of a cuke, tomatoes, 1/2 avocado, 2 stalks of celery with the last of the buttermilk ranch we never tossed after the power outage… so we’ll see how we feel in a couple hours

Also the last of my egg salad on toasted homadama :yum:

We have some roti chicken, ciabatta & avocado left to make sammiches for our drive to the airport tomorrow, as well as some of the salad (if I feel like stinking up the car).

Berlin, here we come :airplane:

another chilly day in SF, but at least the sun was out most of the day… therefore, comfort food again by the BF: Bratwurst from our farmers’ mkt., cabbage and onions he sauteed with beer, and mashed taters with the requisite butter lake.

From the freezer, Easter ham and potatoes au gratin soup. Sauteed carrot, onion, celery, garlic and ham in oo, added chicken broth, when veg were tender added potatoes and a splash of heavy cream. Topped with extra sharp cheddar, bacon and green onion. Salad was little gem, tomato, yellow bell, red onion, gg dressing. Warm baguette and butter. One of the best potato soups I have made.
There was a Beefeater martini rocks con un limón tweest.

Wow, those lasted a while!

That aioli sounds like it would be great with roast beef too!

Pan-Fried Potatoes and Sauerkraut - potatoes get pre-cooked before pan-fried with the kielbasa. In parallel, you cook sauerkraut, bell peppers and scallions before mixing everything. Served with sour cream dip made with sour cream, plenty of mustard and some milk
