Still didn’t get our favorite sourdough, even tho the bakery’s IG bio claimed they were set up at the bi-weekly Turkish market we went to specifically to get bread… but at least we were near the stores where I was picking up my gal pals’ orders (tights, a scarf, earrings) today. We had a lovely lunch of midye dolma, i.e. Turkish mussels stuffed with seasoned rice, then a late afternoon sun-downer at the beer garden in the park across from our pad.

Dinner was at an Italian restaurant we used to go to a lot during our sabbatical 18 years ago, and it was nice to see that they are still very good, all these years later. The caponata di melanzane was excellent,

the burrata crema with green asparagus had a touch of lemon (zest? oil?) that was nice, but a few of the asparagus stalks could’ve been peeled better.

We shared a Normanduja pizza, which is exactly what it sounds like: eggplant, ‘nduja, ricotta. Fabulous crust (look, @digga: no bones!) Took about a third of it home

A nice rosé to go with.

A view of the park across from our pad

If I lived in that pad I would never go home  And that’s a beautiful pizza you had. Actually everything you ate looks delicious!

It’ll be tough to go back. Reminiscent of summers long past — before we had the circle of friends we have now, before I had a band, or the various gigs I work. I cried every last night in Berlin for at least the first 6 or 7 years.

It’s other reasons that make me want to stay this time.

OK, that’s the way to kick off a weekend on holiday! That park is just beautiful! And the wine and pizza aren’t too shabby either!

It sounds like you are working on reversing that time clock.

Easy Friday night breakfast for dinner. English muffins with spicy chili paprika cream cheese spread, topped with fried eggs and garden chives.

Spinach Maria, with tortilla chips and adult beverages. It is rainy and generally gross out, so boxed Pinot Noir for me. Fiddlehead IPA for him.

After having a big honkin’ bowl of pork bone soup for lunch, I had a healthy salad for dinner.

We enjoyed another fabulous dinner at F1rst Restaurant, including grilled filet mignon with wild mushrooms, truffle whipped potatoes, string beans, foie gras butter, and madeira sauce; halibut with morel mushrooms; jumbo lump crab cake with grilled asparagus, baby greens, tarragon “bernaise” tartar sauce; crispy calamari and artichokes with roasted red peppers, kalamata olives, lime “Caesar” aioli. It all went great with an excellent red blend and cabernet.

I couldn’t decide what I wanted for dinner. When in doubt I go for soup or salad. Soup won as it is chilly today. Porky soup. Italian? or Irish? sausage, Easter ham, bacon, carrot, celery, onion, garlic all sautéed in oo, msg & pepper, bay leaf, chicken broth. When veg were tender added cannellini beans, spinach and rpf. Avocado, radish and dill on a toasted baguette.

Looks fabulous

Picked up a few things in Chinatown a few days ago, so some of them turned into dinner(s).

Pork and mushroom jiaozi (dumplings), variously boiled and pan-fried, tossed with a sauce incorporating a recent street purchase of what turned out to be amazing Sichuan fermented bean chilli sauce.

.

Fresh ho fun (wide rice noodles) topped with steamed dim sum-style spare ribs

.

Soy sauce chicken with rice+quinoa blend and homemade Sichuan-style salads of woodear mushroom / black fungus and lotus root.

.

Lemon “cheesecake” — tiny slices for desserts.

.

A few days ago, a wonderful dinner at a modern Korean spot with fellow Onions. It was a 3-course prix fixe, but each dish was sufficient that by doubling up a few, we were able to share and taste everything on the menu.

My favorites were a “caesar” salad with chicken and cabbage, a spicy lamb pancake (jeon), duck breast, and beef stew. And the add-on spicy cold noodles were fabulous.
