Early bird dinner. Char grilled banquet burger with the works and a side of fries from my local joint.
Gonna be lots of take away and fridge/freezer cleanout before I split for CDMX next week.
Ginormous delicious artichoke for dinner. Gifted to me by mail because artichokes do not make it here to the far end of the supply chain.
Pork tenderloin with chimichurri, cheesy cauliflower and broccoli, spinach salad, shallot, baby bells, snap peas, green goddess.
Ramp and scallion vichyssoise (gotta use ‘em up!), seared scallops with soy/jalapeno/red onion relish.
We enjoyed another sensational dinner at That Supper Club pop up dinner. It all went great with an excellent Malbec and cabernet. We added the 40 day dry aged filet mignon and 100 day dry aged NY strip. The menu is listed at the end.
Stir-Fried Pork, Eggplant, and Onion with Garlic and Black Pepper - pork tenderloin get marinated in soy and fish sauce before stir-fried. Subsequently, you stir-fry diced eggplants, onions, garlic and black pepper before finishing everything in a sauce made with fish sauce, soy sauce, light brown sugar, chicken broth, lime juice and cornstarch. Finished with some cilantro and served over rice
One of our closest friends got married at the mayor’s office yesterday morning. We were excited and happy for the two, who were introduced to one another by another couple of friends about 2 years ago. We felt honored to be part of their important day, and the civil ceremony had all of us tearing up
They hosted an early evening cocktail reception for our small circle followed by dinner at one of our favorite restaurants (incidentally the one we randomly went to last week Tuesday).
I had a couple Last Words at the bar, although I guess that technically makes my first drink a Next-To-Last Word
Our happy couple ordered a bunch of starters for the table — the excellent hamachi crudo we had last week among them,
as well as two of the very good arugula salads, the diver scallops with coconut madras curry,
the coffee-crusted lamb chops with vanilla white bean puree,
and the grilled octopus. I was basically full after all that goodness, but we’d already ordered our mains — monkfish and crab pasta in my case,
branzino cacciuco with little neck clams and PEI mussles in my PIC’s case.
Pasta had a nice kick, but not a lot of seafood in it, and the “crispy sunchoke” listed as an ingredient was nowhere to be found. Odd
The bride got the 16oz rib-eye & shared a piece with each of us (fab, but def not worth the price tag of $68!).
I picked a nice Pfälzer Riesling & a crisp Portuguese rosé for us all to go with the apps, and another round for the mains.
Afterwards, we all went over to our buddy’s place for MOAR celebratory prosecco and a fabulous strawberry cake the new bride made for us.
So happy for our friends to have found one another, and to share their special day
When I was a school librarian, I had that cookbook as part of our very large and popular Titanic book section. Kids were totally obsessed with the subject!
That looks like a nice spring-y cake!
It was lovely: light, fluffy & not overly sweet
Found some bits and bobs in the freezer to use up so dinner tonight is curried beer cheese and achari paneer tikka kka on a bed of pimento cheese, also flavored with achari masala. Bread and chips out of shot. Rosé for me and IPA for him.
Dinner tonight at home was black sea bass we brought back from Georgia, sauteed asparagus with toasted almonds and fried capers, green salad with homemade Green Goddess, and a little bit of ww spaghetti with creamy lemon pesto.
I “need” dessert. And I have many Easter eggs to fill. 2 birds…
It hit 82° on my car’s outside thermometer during my errands today, and I actually had to turn on my car’s A/C on the way home.
Meyer lemon & pistachio pesto pasta (I used spaghetti) with a crusty buttered roll, and a salad with baby mixed lettuces, sliced English cukes and watermelon radishes, the last of some baby tomatoes, in a Meyer lemon vinagrette.
Wine.
Take-out birria, carnitas, and carne asada tacos from Taco Loco in Talbotville,. Ontario.
Everything hit the spot.
Easter treats from Streamliners Espresso Bar in St… Thomas, Ontario.
We enjoyed an excellent dinner at Bistro D’Azur including an outstanding crispy duck confit salad with blue cheese, walnuts, and strawberries; lobster crepe; soft shell crab, and homemade Spanish chips. It all went great with a couple of excellent cabernets.
Tuna and cannellini beans salad. Cherry tomatoes, orange baby bell, green olives, red onion over a bed of little gem, sherry vinegar and oo dressing.
I picked up my Easter dinner this afternoon then went to a nearby deli to get a piece of cheesecake for dessert. I got two pieces in the end so I could have one piece of cheesecake tonight and the other piece tomorrow. So for dinner tonight I had a salmon fillet and a Greek salad then cheesecake for dessert.
Leftover halibut smooshed with leftover Meyer lemon aioli and avocado, with tomato over sourdough English muffins.
Last Passover dinner of the year. Marinated and grilled portobello and king oyster mushrooms with asparagus and a fried egg. This is one of my favorite combinations. I like my mushrooms slightly over cooked when grilled and my fried eggs crispy for a textural contrast.
Nice summer day yesterday. Just like in recent years it seems we went straight from winter to summer. Who needs spring anyway?
Perfect weather to attend a rally, but things happened & we didn’t make it to Harrisburg after all. Instead, we took the opportunity to clean up the backyard from the many branches & sticks that accumulated over the last few months, and we even let HH hang out with us on the patio for a while
I had a show at the brewery that went reasonably well, especially considering it’d been a couple of weeks since our last practice. I had a couple of slices of my PIC’s personal cheese pizza from the food truck that was set up outside. It was pretty meh & therefore didn’t deserve any photographic evidence.
A bunch of friends we hadn’t seen in a while showed up, so it was nice to chat & catch up with them after our set. Didn’t feel like eating anything else when we got home, which is why I am already looking forward to our celebratory dinner at home tonight.
Happy 4/20, everyone!
