What's For Dinner #116 - the Mardi Gras / St. Patrick's Day Edition - March 2025

My ‘coffee milk’ I’m sure is not the same as what RI has. My Finnish great grandmother would make me a cup of warm milk with a splash of coffee, in which to dip a piece of toasted and buttered pülla, sometimes two. She recognized I would get too amped up if I drank regular coffee and decaf wasn’t something she’d make.
St. Urho’s Day is an American creation, not typically celebrated in Finland. Regardless, I fly the grasshopper flag every year. If you can be in Finland during Juhannus (summer solstice), you will be very fortunate!

We need a thread for just March Food Celebrations!
I didn’t mention Dr. Seuss (March 2)…green eggs, etc.

Personally, I think single holiday threads are more useful.

Who wants to dig through a lengthy St. Paddy’s Day thread just to find their most beloved Dr. Seuss Day recipe?

That looks très yum!

Is/t’was delicious!

Shrimp ceviche?

Rye bread topped with smoked Red Leicester cheese, sliced cherry tomatoes and red peppers. Baked in the oven for 20 mins until melty.

Not ceviche but poached shrimp.

I feel you so hard on this. I’ve been on calorie restricted diet since mid September. We’re about to have a four day weekend in Las Vegas, where I will be eating absolutely delightful food, then I will come home and spend the next two weeks after trying to work the damage off again.

Enjoy all the good stuff while you are there!

They were good but I like them better just pan fried in garlic butter. You can still taste their umaminess.

Already made all the plans!! Dinners at Jaleo, Best Friend, and Yardbird. Lunches at Tacos Al Gordo, Momofuku, and Giordanos. Also 3 evening shows. It’s gonna be great.

Roasted chicken breast, asparagus and tomatoes smothered with lemon/caper/thyme beurre blanc.
Delicious, but I should have deboned the breast first, not a fan of bone-in breasts tbh.

Jealous! Oh well it will supposedly be going up to the mid teens Celsius here in Ottawa over the weekend (I think that would be in the 60s in Fahrenheit). Won’t be long until spring is here I hope. Enjoy your martini! :cocktail::clinking_glasses::tada::sunny:

Oh, we’ll be back in the cold before you know it — mid-teens* in PA when we come home, too. Hope springs eternal, and spring hopes eternal

*Always, always ˚C for this gal

I had the last serving of aloo gobi from the freezer. No pictures because I was STARVING so I ate too fast and now I have a stomach ache :frowning: I still made it up to the jazz bar and it’s hoppin’! I am now sipping on a nojito.

Hope the drink and music soothe you and your tummy!

The posts that comment on March “holidays” of all sorts are very helpful for me, especially those that list March holidays, some of which I had forgotten and some that I had never heard of. Maybe a thread called just that without reporting on WFD…What holidays to you celebrate or like to remember in March…since there are so many? Just a thought?

I’m overwhelmed by various family and practical issues and can’t start it myself right now.

Tx! I will be right as rain soon enough. Sitting quietly usually helps.
