What's For Dinner #114 - the 1st Quarter Century Edition - January 2025

 Happy Hump Day, hungry HOs!

Nothing like having a perfect night of sleep interrupted by Mr. Assclown-I-mean-our-birthday-boy, who decided to march into our bedroom at some ungodly hour requiring attention — not food or drink, mind you, just attention . Spoiled little pussycat! It was still pitch-black outside, too WTH! We managed to ignore him and fell back asleep for a few more hours.

Today was so cold I refused to leave the house, like, at all. Made more progress on my new song & caught up on NYers. Life’s just too exciting sometimes

A good friend of mine teaches an amazing meditative breath workshop (online and IRL), and tonight just happened to be one. It is like nothing I have ever experienced, and I always feel like I got a 2-hour massage, or spent a day at the spa afterwards. Truly healing for mind, body & soul, and I’m so glad I joined, as I evidently needed it after a long hiatus

This also meant an easy-peasy dinner we could throw together quickly after 8pm. My sweets made up the bok choy one of my gal pals gifted me, plus a few broccoli crowns lingering in the crisper,

which turned out to be way too much — the bok choy would’ve sufficed, but hey: leftovers!

and I threw some dumplings in the steamer*.

BOOM. Dinnah. Now back to the cuddle couch, all meditated out & at peace with the world.

*MEGA-thanks to whoever (@BierMonk?) suggested to use parchment paper in the steamer, bc it worked like a mf’ing charm! Muchas, muchas gracias :pray:t2: :kissing_heart:

Washington Post’s Persian lentil soup (leftovers from the freezer). Pan-roasted chicken thighs. A quick yogurt-based naan.

Playdate at a friend’s – I brought crescent roll dough and Nathan’s hot dogs for the kids to get crafty with. My friend made TJ’s mushroom ravioli in cream sauce, a green salad with dried apricots, blue cheese, and sunflower seeds, and we had some Speck I brought and artichoke dip beforehand. No pics.

I hope the Spring Onion is feeling better soon

An old standby of many, many years, chicken tarragon over egg noodles. Mixes greens salad, green onion, celery, tomatoes, avocado, blue cheese dressing. Woda.

Spaghetti squash with that tomato butter onion sauce everyone likes, and Trader Joe’s soy spheres.

Furikake celery, for health!

Tacos, with the last of the leftover trout from Saturday, shrimp, avocado, and feta. Sprinkled with adobo seasoning.

Hoppin’ John with New Year’s black eyed peas out of the freezer.

Cheer on that! :beers:
It will actually work better if you make some small Holes(or Slits) in the Parchment. It allows steam to get through and condensed Water Vapor to drain.

I did  I believe you mentioned that, so I stabbed the parchment paper with a knife. It worked like magic. MAGIC, I say!

Thx again. Game changer :dancer:t2:

My absolute fave grapefruit from back in my LA farmer’s market days, was oro blanco. Yellow peel and flesh. Like a small pomelo. I’ve not seen one since moving away many years back.

Sounds good; I will have to keep my eyes peeled for that.

Thank you so very much.

Being elderly myself, I know she truly appreciates all of your kindnesses to her. You and your PIC are good people.

Thank you so very much.

Spaghetti, green beans, and pistachios with pesto (jar of Rao’s BF picked up). Keeping it simple tonight.

My first ever homemade patty melt(aka grilled cheese burger), ripple chips and garlic dills on the side. A bit rare-ish and it needed some catsup for dipping, but it was greezy good.

Dang, dude. That’s a good-looking melt!
