What's For Dinner #114 - the 1st Quarter Century Edition - January 2025

Taking a page from Hong Kong’s Iconic ’ Jimmy Kitchen’s ’ British colonial menu.
For dinner, made a ’ Dutch Steak ’ using an Angus Prime Strip Loin ( Jimmy’s rendition uses Filet Mignon ) , cast iron pan seared to medium rare, glazed and topped with a ‘Maggi’ based and huge pile of butter sauteed caramelized

garlic chips sauce.

That’s some handsome fries! Were they as crispy as they look?

I love adding a few drops of Maggi to marinades and meaty dishes.

They were, but Popeyes fries are the coated kind, not my favorite but still pretty tasty.

I made a salad for dinner tonight: green leaf lettuce, sliced cuke and radish, shaved carrot, Sweet Bite cherry tomatoes, leftover sliced chicken, and shaved Comte cheese, drizzled with Ken’s Parmesan-Ranch salad dressing.

WFD is mostly leftovers, which just happen to resemble sports-bar food (but it’s all homemade).

Pepperoni pan pizza. Hot wings. Romaine in Caesar dressing.

Looked through the fridge tonight, then came up with this snacky dinner: roasted cherry tomatoes and shishito peppers, burrata, and a few slices of prosciutto. Not pictured are the accompanying arugula in vinaigrette, marinated olives, and ciabatta (pulled from the freezer stash).

Roasting the cherry tomatoes and peppers in olive oil was super easy, so this one is going into the rotation as an occasional low-effort dinner.

I hsve been to Malaysia quite a few times and came across the fast food chain Marry Brown’s. I’d always assumed there must be a Mary Brown food place they took inspiration from . I never bothered to check but nice to have it confirmed.

A few nights ago, I made big pots of veggie chili and a veggie soup with veggie chorizo, potato, kale, and chickpeas. Though the pots of food are still quite full, needed something new to eat last night so I made a dinner of pan-roasted salmon, air-fryer Brussels, and doctored Spring Onion’s leftover spaghetti with sautéed mushrooms, soy sauce, butter, crushed red pepper (tasted better than it looks/sounds).

Ah, same.

Hosted 9 of my beloved bishes for pizza & movie night. I thought a good way of cutting down on our drinking (not to mention expenses) would be to break up our weekly bar routine — not that there wasn’t any booze available @casa lingua, but nobody had to feel obligated to partake, plus alternatives were around

We ordered 5 Detroit-style πs that my PIC was a doll to pick up for us: a large garlic dill pickle & triple threat,

Probably a bit too much, as we ended up sending several ladies home with some leftovers. Delish.

Peeps left just a little after midnight, and a good time was had by all
