Sounds really good! The no-shows missed out! (I’d be pissed).
Sounds fabulous!!
Actually, I was relieved because the littles (7, 6 & 5) were way out of control and ten extra mouths may have made it worse. Plus, there was more room to mingle and I wasn’t really looking forward to last minute ‘overnighters’, either. It took me until 4 pm to fill up the dishwasher today with the undone flatware and misc. dishes. That is so not like me!
Very creative!
The first time I had maqluba, 11 years ago, it was a goose one, in Montreal.
I couldn’t find a goose maqluba recipe online. I mostly used the Ottolenghi & Tamimi recipe in Jerusalem as inspiration tonight.
The recipe is found here. I cut back on the spices to 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp allspice, 1/4 tsp turmeric, 1/4 tsp baharat spice blend, since my goose broth already contained some clove and marjoram, and I was only using around 8 ounces of goose and 1 1/3 cup of basmati.
We enjoyed another sensational dinner at The Farmer’s Daughter in Newton, NJ, including lobster surf n turf bone marrow; Elk chop; slow roasted root vegetables with roasted garlic, fresh herbs, tossed with red quinoa; grilled eggplant rolls; apple wedge salad with creamy blue cheese, candied walnuts, pancetta, cranberries, and crispy onion rings; roast apple tartare with figs and goat cheese. It all went great with a couple of excellent red blends.
Korean-Inspired Fusion Dish with Pasta, Cheese and Kimchi - Fusilli are mixed with mornay sauce (made with cheddar and whole grain mustard) topped with more grated cheddar and kimchi and baked in a dutch oven. Once finished you add scallions and mix everything - more or less kimchi mac’n cheese
Thai green curry soup. Made a chicken stock with soy, fish sauce, garlic, lemon grass, makrut lime and of course chicken. When the stock was done I strained everything out and added Maesri Green Curry Paste, more soy and fish sauces, sweet soy coconut milk and let that simmer together for a couple of minutes before adding back the chicken plus enoki mushrooms, baby bok choi, carrots and Thai basil.
Served with dumplings over bean sprouts and cucumbers dressed with a black vinegar, ginger, chili and sesame oil, garlic and soy dipping sauce. The dumplings were leftover from our mother’s day crawl.
Our first poker game in what seems like eons! I WON $3
We ordered pizza from the Detroit-style place — lucky to call at 8:20pm bc the owner was ready to shut down early (slow night), but he’s a good cookie and so we had 3 lovely personal pies and an order of dill bbq wings for our GF buddy on the table by 9pm

Oh, garlic dill pickle, how have I missed you!
wings. They were ok.
Last night we had munchies in front of the tv: farasbi chi bhaji (green beans with peanuts, goda masala, and curry leaves), achari spiced pimiento cheese, and fresh naan.
Amazing recipes! Thanks for posting!
You’re welcome! I hope you enjoy them if you try them.
Tell me!
Friday night dinner - back to salads! With more of the leftover tri tip, and everything else we had in the fridge. and the BF’s “breadsticks” to go with. His meal was a pork and eggplant stir-fry, with a gorgeously fluffy tamagoyaki. How does he do it?*
*rhetorical. I know he’s magic.
Wagyu beef patties on the grill with homemade “secret sauce” (not a secret). American cheese. Chopped romaine. Rehydrated-dehydrated onion. Homemade garlic dill pickles. Store-bought onion buns. Jamon Iberico chips.
No leftovers!
Looks and sounds great! Especially appealing after Christmas food.
Thanks. I needed something as far away from holiday food as possible.
