Haven’t made many tortillas but in general for “similar” doughs, e.g. piadina, solid fats give a much easier to handle product (and with lard it also tastes better)

Sunshine says the same thing to me when I talk about my “ugly” tortillas, etc.
I think (sometimes) the home cook is too hard on themselves.
With a little more practice and some slight tweaks to your recipe, your tortillas will be perfect!!
