Tonight’s dinner was budget friendly Sushi – California Rolls (w/ imitation crab) to be exact.

I had found these packs of imitation crab on clearance a few months ago and froze them – waiting for the day when avocados would go on sale.

This week avocados were on sale, so I defrosted the crab and made Sunshine her favorite sushi rolls. She was quite happy!!

Today was the fabulous Mrs. P’s birthday. We celebrated with an outstanding dinner at Drew’s Bayshore Bistro, in Keyport, NJ, including a seafood stuffed eggplant boat; fried butternut ravioli with spiced apple chutney; pork belly and sprouts with toasted pumpkin seeds and tabasco gastrique; Cajun shrimp; tomato panzanella salad. It all went great with a couple of excellent red blends.

Pizza Saturday . When you stray away from measurements. I decided to add 2 tablespoons water to dissolve the salt. Huge alteration in the dough
Prawn Primavera. The base a mixture of tomato and creme fraiche . Topped with typical prawn scampi .Cheers

The outcome was . Nothing more to be expected.

Another great pizza – I never thought of prawns or even shrimp on a pizza, but that does sound good!!

Dinner tonight started with lovely pâtés at Bar Boulud, continued to disappointment at NYC critics’ darling Tatiana where we ate oxtail and crab rangoon and curried snow crab, and concluded with excellent milk chocolate and coffee gelato for me and straciatella and pistachio for my companion from L’Arte del Gelato.

Please give Mrs P our warmest regards. Drew’s is a great place for a celebration. Love that stuffed eggplant.

Oh, no! I’ve been dying to try that place. What went wrong?

NM, saw your review.

Did you run out of all three? Cheese-less burger. SADZ.

We still have THREE unopened packages from the market. I bet one of them’s gonna be opened this coming week :yum:

nope, had all 3, just chose not to incorporate them into the meal

What a gorgeous meal, Linda! :star_struck: I am always in awe how well you treat yourself & the things you cook! My single gal meals have nothing on you!

A positively stunning, hot, late August day. Oh, wait. It’s actually early October

Perfect weather for taking care of some much-needed supplies shopping: our favorite boxed wine, which currently isn’t available at the liquor stores near us so we mozied up to CC, then picked up a few cans of Benediktiner Helles at the beer distributor, cookies at the Italian pastry shop, and cheese & more marinated beans at DiBruno’s. We’re set for a few days now

Crashed @Bigley9’s block party (not really, sillies —we were invited ) where we met a bunch of fine peeps, delighted in some of the impressive food spread — including Pat’s lovely eggplant & chickpea dish, deviled eggs,

steak,

pulled bbq chicken, pizza, meatball sammies, various pasta & other salads,

not to mention the dessert table,

and shared a few drinks. A perfectly balmy evening for an outdoor gathering in the city with perfect strangers :yellow_heart:

PS: Forgive the lousy photo quality, but I already felt weird taking pics at a block party

Thank you! I will.
We love that seafood stuffed eggplant dish as well. I texted Drew earlier in the week to see if he could make that dish for us, and he very generously agreed to make it just for us (since it wasn’t on the menu). Drew is the nicest person!
We look forward to seeing you and Mr. Bean at the Tavola HO down in a couple of weeks!

We love Drews!
I’m looking forward to the HO down. It’s been a long time since we’ve all been able to get together.

we’re back to high temps in San Francisco this weekend (mid-90s - i know it’s worse further inland). Last night at my sister’s (who lives across the Bay but it was similarly broiling there), we opted for a Caesar salad and a small filet of salmon each. She made the dressing from a The Kitchn recipe i’d given her, and then croutons from an ATK recipe. Both turned out swell, and we each had a big bowl with a side of salmon i sauteed with just salt and lemon juice.

Tonight I was going to make a Chef John recipe the BF and i saw of Short Ribs Pizzaiola but it’s too friggen hot, so i’ll probably have some cold tofu dish and he’ll have something else. the ribs will have to wait until temps cool down on Tuesday.

Whole roasted black sea bass, dressed with lemon, garlic, butter, oregano, and soy sauce, adapted from The Woks of Life. I made roasted green beans that were tossed with crispy shallots (cooked in mustard oil with cumin and black mustard seeds), chile oil, and toasted peanuts. There was also some jasmine rice. Very satisfying dinner!
