Beef Stew with diced beef chuck, crumbled salsiccia, mushrooms, carrots, onions, potatoes, bay leaves, bbq sauce, tomato paste, paprika and parsley. Thickened with some flour at the end and served with some sour cream.
Wow
We went to a Thai night market last night and had grilled sausages, chicken skewers, grilled sticky rice, pad that omelet, mussel pancake, and som tum. Good but not as good as Philly SEA. Som tum was lacking fresh red chiles. Mussel pancake was the standout.
Aw, that’s too bad! Remember, I still have your sossidges — thinking of making some sort of stir-fry with the lemongrass ones this week…
I’ll definitely be up to claim them soon. Just trying to find a weekend where I don’t have a singing commitment. Those lemon grass ones are so delish.
Another potluck is in the books. TBH, I was pretttty socialized out after nonstop events since Wednesday — fun as they were, and I look forward to chilling out with my dude & our kitteh in the next days to come
Considering how many cooks had signed up, I was a little surprised that we didn’t have more food in the house — there was enough for everyone (perhaps folks have adjusted how much they make for the group), but I seem to recall a larger variety of foods previously, and even my PIC said he thought it was the most boring event food-wise so far The attending barkeep from the gay bar made a lovely fall punch that we enjoyed as our nightcap before vacating the premises.
Pickled eggs I did not enjoy one bit, but I’ve yet to have one that isn’t rubbery and only tastes like vinegar. Nope.
Fresh green tomato salsa with a whisper of heat. Nice, but not very interesting.
Spinach balls with pepper jelly. Needed salt, both of it.
Lovely paté with dried fruit and baguette.
Bacon, onion & boursin rollups. Nice.
“Asian” salad. Didn’t use the Kraft dressing with it. 'twas alright.
My friend’s super-creamy hummus with salad & chili crisp. Delish.
“German skillet with creamy mustard sauce” with brats, potatoes, kraut – must be a US creation, but it was so good I had 3 helpings

It’s Hallowe’en, after all

This butter chicken, also made by a dear friend, was the winner for me, along with the German skillet and the hummus. It had almost no heat, unfortunately, but the flavors were on point. It was obliterated in no time.
Cranberry chocolate chip cookies made by the barkeep’s mom. She’s a riot, and the cookies were good. They would’ve been even better without the cranberries

A “sock-it-to-me” cake with chocolate buttercream frosting that I didn’t get to try bc I was positively stuffed with everything else.
A lot of familiar faces, some newbs, and a good time was had by all.
Isn’t butter chicken usually mild? The butter chicken I’ve had is usually silky rather than spicy.
I’ve had several iterations of this dish, some with more heat than others — a Pakistani place in particular makes a pretty hot version of it, which — being the chili head that I am — I prefer.
It was nonetheless absolutely delicious & probably my favorite dish of the night, along with that German skillet & the hummus
While that sounds delicious and looks lovely, I have to say Ottolenghi putting the moniker “Bolognese” on it is absolutely mind boggling to me. ¯\ (°_o)/¯
Looks Great!
I have never seen Thai Grilled Sticky Rice before, I’ll have to keep an Eye out for it.
Lol. Yes, I think it is “Bolognese” more in the British style, which seems to be more of a tomato and ground beef affair (no milk to be seen), at least based on my viewing of “Absolutely Fabulous”.
It was very good. Didn’t make it into my pictures but the rice was wrapped in banana leaves and had light sear marks on the rice itself. Had a vaguely coconutty taste but inside we found what we think was a small banana chunk. Anyway, quite good.

That mushrom cheese sauce looks really, really good. Is it simple to make?
Yes. I didn’t have any dried mushrooms so I used a little more cream and pasta water for consistency.
Last night I made baked cod in lemon cream sauce with haricots with bouquet garni and brown rice and quinoa blend. Tasty and easy. Thanks @munchkinredux!
Banquet Burger Bagel.
Bacon cheeseburger on a sesame bagel, fried onions, pickles, tomato, catsup and mayo with a side of home fries. The bagel worked out really well, held up better than any bun I’ve used and it was in the freezer anyway.
Tonight was a quickie – TJ’s chilies rellenos with red sauce, Mexican rice and corn.
Old Fashioneds.
Package of Costco chicken breasts cut into chunks, marinated in oil, za’atar, red chiles, and lime juice, then skewered and grilled. Hummus, made from canned chickpeas, with veggie platter. Garlic bread.
Monkfish in Tomato-Garlic Sauce - I added some homemade pinto beans to bulk it out a little. There was a green salad with a mustardy walnut oil dressing and toasted walnuts out of shot.
Chicken Curry with rice and naan at a pub. No photo! Hit the spot.
