Put me in coach. I’ll play!!!
totally underrated salad
Chicken Jalfrezi from one of the books by “The Curry Guy” - chicken breast, red, green and yellow peppers, tomatoes, onion, jalapenos, black mustard seeds and curry leaves are simmered in a pureed sauce made from onion, garlic, ginger, curry powder, paprika, sirarakhong chili, cumin, coriander, tomato passata and chicken broth. Finished with kasoori methi, cilantro and lime juice and served with basmati rice.
They were warm.
I mean, it wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever eaten, but the whole experience was kind of a bummer. Everyone who worked there was trying their hardest to keep up with the teeming, unwashed masses. Had to use coffee cup for drinking water, 3 below mid tier beers on offer and I think I chose the best things on the buffet . I had a gift card that probably wouldn’t have been used, so no great loss.
Will be reporting on my food adventures soon.
An absolute NYT fave in this household.
Spinach?
The Bread and Streuselkuchen (?) look great, what’s the Bakery?
They supply the sourdough for one of our phavorite Philly restos, Vernick Food & Drink, which is how I found out about them.
That’s a coffee cake with random blueberry filling.
Salmon w/white wine, butter, dill, lemon. Corn on the cob. Both cooked out on the grill. Can you tell I tried to hide the burned parts of the corn…lol. Homemade tartar sauce and green beans sautéed with onion and bacon.and a bit of balsamic.
I was inspired by a lobster and esquites (Mexican street corn, off the cob) taco recipe in Tacos: Recipes and Provocations by Alex Stupak and Jordana Rothman…and then proceeded to just do my own thing with shrimp and my own esquites. I couldn’t find epazote anywhere, so I subbed cilantro and fresh oregano (which actually was really good!). We really liked this! I bet it would be even better with lobster, but BF actually prefers shrimp. I may use larger shrimp next time. We’ll see.
The fire alarm in our building went off randomly mid-day, and it freaked out our poor kitteh. He didn’t know where to run or hide, so alternatingly sought shelter in his litterbox and the shower cabin, poor baby. My PIC went downstairs to check what’s going on: false alarm — no duh! — where he encountered several tenants in the courtyard, cat carriers in tow
Mr. Chonky’s come out from under the bed since & seems no worse for the wear. Thank goodness for those teeny, tiny pet brains
We only left the house briefly today to pick up a few salad fixins like gem lettuce & a cuke & heirloom tomatoes, toast for my trout roe, then made the mistake of checking out Sprouts’ nuts & seeds bar. Grabbed a few baggies of brazil nuts, dark chocolate espresso beans, roasted & salted sunflower seeds, and milk chocolate toffees.
Dinner was another low-key affair: porchetta, pistachio mortadella & melted Raschera toast with mustard & pepperoncini,
marinated beans & gigantic Cerignola olives from DiBruno’s,
and another BAS.
Potato heavy meal tonight, using up the potatoes I injured while digging them up.
Potato salad
Cherrywood smoked Gouda scalloped potatoes
Green salad with basil
Nut-free Waldorf
Parsnips
Tuna cakes
I must have missed something. Who is Mr. Chunky?

Chorizo, potato, poblano, onion, garlic enchiladas, red sauce, pepper jack & sharp cheddar cheese. Little gem, radish, avocado & green onion salad, chipotle ranch dressing.
oh my goodness that pie looks luscious!
I grew up eating salmon burgers (well, patties) - my parents loved them, which was strange as they didn’t eat much of any other kind of fish. My mom always made them with a cooked tomato and onion salsa, which I thought was a bit of an odd pairing. I like the idea of the Bittman flavors much better.
Been a lot of eating out, for reviews and just friend things. Tonight I was home and the BF made another round of bean toast, using the never-ending smoked turkey we got LAST DECEMBER (and no, it’s still not gone!) (he also made himself a gorgeous turkey pot pie one night, that I nibbled on after my own dinner out.) I’m not complaining, though, as these were nice and smokey, and I had him top mine with a little lemon zest, parsley, and scallions. a piece of charred sourdough lay underneath (white bread croutons on his), and a tomato salad on the side. He asked me if i wanted an egg as he made one for himself, and I said no and immediately regretted it.
those enchiladas sound wonderful! I’d bet the dental-challenged BF could even eat those…
