We’d signed up for a dinner at a Turkish place with random strangers from a foodie group on MeetUp. We were a group of 10 with a nice variety of provenance & age. Two dudes with an Indian background (one raised in India, one born & raised in Southern Georgia, and who happens to live right across the street from our pad! ), a guy from Jordan, a guy from NJ who took the train in for this dinner, a dude from Baltimore who runs his own food gatherings there, and a couple of others who sat too far away to find out more. A lively, friendly group united by the love of food & the curiosity to meet strangers
The food was good. Everyone ordered their own dish, and my PIC and I shared the baba ganoush
which was excellent, the lamb Adana kebab was a little dry —when I inquired about the lamb tail fat the server had no idea what I was talking about,
but I’ve long curbed my expectations for Turkish food compared to what we get in Berlin They first brought out a plate of their special that day, döner,
for the table to try. I thought the meat was nicely seasoned and the right amount of fatty and lambiness, but not many at the table had much interest in it. The guy who lives across the street from us got the falafel plate with 5 large ballz,
one guy the very good looking (homemade) manti,
and the dude next to me the iskender kebap,
which looked really great. Massive portions, as is usually the case with Turkish food.
We didn’t know that it was BYOB & didn’t come prepared, but the guy from Bawlmer was nice enough to share some of his
Looking forward to future dinners.
