Yes toasted Sweet Rice is nice but the spouse doesn’t like"gritty" so I don’t usually bother.

I made a salmon curry based on this recipe

And some cannellini beans loosely based on a dal makhani, using fresh tomatoes instead and tomato pastes and omitting the cream.

Also, some roasted stone fruit.

The roasted stone fruit looks gorgeous! :yum:

Pan-roasted chicken thighs. Potato and onion kugel (gift link). Caramelized green beans.

I forgot to take a photo of dinner, so you get a photo of the kugel.

I made a burger that was too big for my mouth, and I have a big mouth. Grilled patty of grass fed beef with added ground bacon & grease and a splash of l&p. Mayo, onion, tomato, ketchup, velveta & sharp cheddar, mustard on a crappy jalapeno, cheese bun that disintegrated before I was finished. Orzo salad, peppadew & orange peppers, green onion, kalamata olives, cucumber, dill, oo&v dressing. Lots of wine.

Mrs. P made a delicious corn and crab pasta, and a crawfish and Andouille sausage cheesecake. It all went great with an excellent Belle Glos Pinot Noir.

Camping road trip up north began this evening. For dinner on the road we made the kiddo’s wildest dream of a 40-piece McMuggets come true (this is half ). No apologies. Many leftovers. There were some fries.

And a pre-mixed (by me) ice-cold Manhattan once we arrived at midnight. I should have thought of this sooner.

Also, muchisimas stars:

That is officially the proper amount of cheese on a burger

Strawberries and green pepper is such a classic (and old-fashioned) combo! I’ve only ever had it for dessert, however — minus the salmon.

My GF had a duo gig at the distillery in the town over, so we snatched up a big table with 15 of our closest buddies & listened to her while enjoying a not-over-the-top humid evening without rain (for a change). She did an absolutely gorgeous cover of Here Comes The Rain Again :star_struck: — rather fitting, considering the dreadful weather lately.

I started off with a blueberry mint mojito, which was tart & refreshing (the second one was unfortunately overly sweet, so I pivoted to martinis).

We shared a “spicy” (not) chicken curry dip with toasted naan,

and a cheese & bean dip w/tortilla chips.

When they both came out, I thought the chicken dip tasted oddly similar to the bean dip… the kitchen had messed up and brought us two bean dips: one with chips, one with naan. An easily fixed mess-up, and the service was pretty impressive, considering a full house & patio. It really turned out be a gorgeous evening with great conversations, so I was rather bummed when my PIC called it: someone had to get us home, after all — home to leftover steak with zippy Thai dressing to dip in, that is, which I augmented with yet another chopped bird pepper :hot_pepper: :grimacing:

Perhaps it was the combination of booze and spicy meat late at night, but I woke up at 6am in a lot of discomfort. Not my idea of a great morning, but thankfully I fell back asleep and woke up again at 12:30! :scream_cat:!

No clue WFD tonight. Our pescatarian buddy’s hosting another poker game, so delivery/takeout is likely. My PIC and I are hitting a pub beforehand to catch another friend of mine’s first set. She’s incredible.

Darn it, no pics from last night’s feast:
•Appy of homemade pesto spread on slices of sourdough loaf, surprisingly good. Heavy on the pinenuts. Will repeat.
•Grilled London Broil seasoned on one side only with Montreal seasoning, roomate cut it 1/2" strips on the bias, a little thick, but so tasty and juicy
•ATK’s Briam. First time making it. Way too much olive oil and I had halved what was called for in the recipe. I didn’t like all the great veggies swimming in the good stuff, I felt it was a waste of evoo. I will make again, with adjustments.
•From sker-ratch corn bread with creamed honey and butter. Always a favorite. Was consumed for breakfast by the early risers this morning. Carb loaders for a swim event.
•SE’s Bantoffee pie. An easy recipe and I made changes: made with a can of purchased dulce le leche instead of making my own. The crust was made with graham crackers and that was too much in volume for the crust for the pie. The unsweetened whipped cream was left off the total pie instead for each to top their own slice. The unsweetened cream made sense, the pie was very sweet; sweetened cream would have made it too sweet. I left off the chocolate shavings. It was a hit, easily serving 10 for the 10" tart pan with small slices. May make again, maybe freezing the entire pie before bringing it out to serve.
Steak sandwiches for dinner tonight!

This was supposed to be Adeena Sussman’s Chard Wrapped Fish with Lemon and Olives from Sababa but I didn’t have the time to wrap the fish. Instead, I chopped up the chard and simmered with with the sauce that includes onion, garlic, chicken broth, olives and cherry tomatoes. I had some potatoes to use so threw them in there as well. The fish is topped with a paste of lemon juice and zest, cilantro and olive oil. There’s supposed to be olives in the paste but The Sprout isn’t a fan so I left them out.

An insane amount of rain this morning around 7 a.m. (it woke me up, along with the thunder and lightning!) led to beautiful blue skies and sunshine for my errands in the late morning/early afternoon.

Can I just say I love that both World Market and Home Goods are within a half mile of each other in Salem, NH? It makes my “I had no idea I needed this until I saw it!” shopping so much easier. And pappardelle egg pasta at HG made my dinner decision much easier.

B/S chicken breast was seasoned with s/p and McCormick Garlic and Herb seasoning and pan-sauteed in olive oil and butter 4 minutes per side, adding 1 Tbsp of lemon juice and 1/4 cup white wine near the end, covering and simmering until done.

Meanwhile, the pappardelle was cooked and removed with a spider, reserving 1/4 cup of pasta water. Before I fully drained the pasta water, I added several stalks of asparagus to the hot water to cook for 3-4 minutes, then removed and drained the water over the pappardelle in the colander.

Whisked 2 Tbsp of defrosted pistachio pesto and 2 Tbsp of olive oil in the hot pot with some of the pasta water. Added maybe 1/4 cup heavy cream, let it simmer and thicken, added the pappardelle and stirred to combine.

It all came together quite nicely with several glasses of Vint Chardonnay while cooking and with dinner.
