What's for Dinner #109 - the National Sandwich Month Edition - August 2024

The WoL recipe includes a marinade for the beef & a dressing for the salad. I was worried it might be to … watery (?), but I realize Thai dressings aren’t as emulsified. It was really very good.

And yes, lunch today! Once I have breakfast

Guess I should have found out what the WoL Recipe was before chiming in!
The Thai Dressings I make actually have no oil at all in them. I find them to be fairly intense and wouldn’t want them to be thicker.
I find it strange that they add Herbs to the Dressing Itself. I always keep the Herbs for the Salad.
A final Topping of Fried Shallots and Crushed Peanut is a great addition.

I forewent the peanuts, but didn’t miss them. I liked that the dressing had chopped herbs on top of the torn herbs in the salad  I’m a herby gal, tho.

Do you ever add toasted rice powder to your beef salad? I may next time.

BE STILL MY HEART!! that’s a glorious plate of food…

I was just looking at Sam’s and wondering whether their hot dogs are good. What do y’all think about their flavor? That would help me decided whether to purchase them or not, thank you.

I think they are some of the best hot dogs I’ve had, but I’m not much of a hot dog person :grimacing:

They have a great snap, are very beefy & pretty large compared to your usual ballpark dog, but they are also VERY salty — especially on their own. The combo of fluffy bun, sweet ketchup, tangy mustard & zippy chopped onion usually helps offset the salt for me, but if sodium is a concern, they may not be for you. We often share one at Sam’s for lunch bc it’s a ridic deal $1.38 for a dog + large fountain drink

Thank you so much.

Have you ever tried the Costco dogs?

I have not. Are they good?

For the price, they can’t be beat plus up here in Canada, we can get fries and gravy!!! :trophy::clap:t2: :tada:

I will make note of that and maybe compare Sam’s and Costco. Thanks for the info.

You’re welcome, I’m not even sure we have Sam’s Club up here.

I believe Sam’s Club has left Canada. There used to be one in London, ON around 2007.

But you have Sam’s, so there’s that.

Yeah, but most of what is available there is useless to us. Not sure we’ll keep the membership next year.

I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member, but luckily both my sisters have memberships so I tag along with them occasionally.

Groucho? Is that you?

It’s good for the fruit prices & the gas. We also got a nice set of glass containers for food storage. But I think it’s more suitable for households larger than 1-2 peeps.
