Another chillier day in Berlin – I suppose our fabulous luck with the weather couldn’t last forever… but that’s a-ok. A good day to get some reading done, and to consider a comforting meal such as tonight’s dinner: spicy white bean & potato stew.

I sautéed 1.5 shallots, TPSTO chopped garlic & 3 sliced bird peppers in olive oil, toasted a small blob of tomato paste, added a shot glass of Grillo, a glass jar of extra-$pecial chicken broth from the organic market, a lil wooder, 2 glass jars of extra-$pecial beans from the Italian market, sliced new potatoes, a nublet of ‘nduja, 2 sliced smoked mettwurst, 3 chopped up roasted red peppers, and 2 big sprigs of fresh rosemary & let that simmer for a while. If our pad had a microplane I would’ve liked to have added some lemon zest on top of each of our bowls, but it don’t…. so I just squoze some lemon juice in there. Finished it off with a blob of crème fraiche to round it all out.

Came out really well – those sausages were nice n smoky.

Cuke salad with creamy dill dressing for a touch of cool freshness on the side.

These are the ‘safe’ members of that family, right?

Saw these live giant Arctic Surf Clams on special at ’ Full Fresh Supermarket, King’s Square, 16th & Woodbine, Markham ’ for $3.99 per pound. Bought two for just over $6.00!

Decide to make a super exotic traditional Cantonese stir-fry dish :
" Sauteed Surf Clam Meat ( alternative to using Scallops, Prawns, Razor Clams or Squid ) with fermented shrimp paste and yellowing chives …( slowly stir frying aromatics of diced scallions, shallots and minced ginger and garlic to begin cooking process ).

Sweet, chewy and crunchy meat, super-pungent/aromatic, savory with a pleasant salty kick, chives contributed additional textural contrast…overall, a huge concentrated umami package, great with rice!

Today was Filling Replacement Day. I had two fillings that needed to be replaced - one on either side of my mouth - and I had the option of having them both replaced at the same time or one at a time. I thought I was being a smart cookie by having them both replaced at the same time. The freezing thawed quickly and the drooling was minimal however the dentist mentioned on my way out that my teeth will feel sensitive for the next few days. Thankfully I planned lunches and snacks that were soft so eating during the day wasn’t a problem. However I had a beef stirfry for dinner but I think I should have had tofu instead. It tasted good though…

I topped purchased spinach-cheese manicotti with meatballs marinara from the freezer and cheese. Side of sauteed asparagus with balsamic glaze, pistachio oil, and chopped toasted pistachios (plus a pinch of MSG). Good and easy.

It was originally supposed to be a make your own caprese sandwiches. Plus prosciutto. I also added a few items for the picky one who enjoys Brie but not mozz. I made the bread today. It’s flavored with nigella and roasted garlic.

TJs tofu & veggie kimbap, with sriracha and furikake, and the BF’s little side salads of thinly sliced cukes and (rather old/discolored) pickled daikon that still tasted great. For himself, meatloaf soup!

and let’s not kid ourselves - you KNOW i had a slice of the meatloaf as appetizer and dessert.
